Motorola V710

So iSync support says this only works with USB cable for syncing... can I use the USB cable accessory to transfer OTHER files (i.e, mp3s for ringtones) to the phone?

Thanks!

NO - the file is still there, but in a slightly different place. I think the easiest way to find it is once you show package contents do a search for "MetaClasses.plist". Looking at the line with the USB-BT informaion, it was obviously still the same as when I changed it before, so I wasn't sure what to change.

So, what I did was go remove the V710 from my devices in iSync, then go in and replace the ENTIRE entry, from <key>com.motorola.V710</key> to </dict>. I went in and re-added the device and it works perfectly again.

Ok, I did the search inside of iSync and I found three files with that name. The only one of the three that had a section of text similiar to the link a few posts above was the one at this path:

iSync:Contents:Plugins:ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice:Contents:Plugins:BaseSync.ph oneplugin:Contents:Resources:MetaClasses.plist

I noticed it was exactly the same except for one line:

<string>com.motorola.usb.0x22B8/0x2A22</string>

is mine, and

<string>com.motorola.usb-bt.0x22B8/0x4902</string>

is the one at: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20050501151747917&query=motorola+v7 10

Notice that the only difference is the "-bt" and the "0x2A22".

I tried changing just the -bt, and then I changed them both. Then I changed the entire section of text as you said to do and all three times when trying to add the v710 to iSync it would find it, but stated that it couldn't sync with it. This is of course after I set it up to sync with iSync in the BlueTooth Set Up Device section of the BlueTooth System Prefs.

So I'm now lost. Could you please confirm that I'm doing this correctly, and that you did the same thing or not? I am running an older version of the firmware: 8700_01.30.8F instead of the ....40.8F that exists. I guess I'll get the firmware update next. Any other ideas though?

Thanks,

Jim

As far as I know I have the current firmware, I would update that asap. I think this hack is specifically designed to work around the current firmware version, so that may be your problem.

Also, I would totally remove the device, and then replace all the text, then go into iSync and click add device rather than going through the bluetooth set up assistant. See what it says then. For me, as soon as I replaced all the text and then clicked add device in iSync it worked.

Thanks for continuing to help me out. I went into the Verizon store and was told that they were unable to install the update. They claim to have called other Verizon stores in the area and discovered that they also can't run it. They also told me that their IT dept. is aware of the issue. This is the same song and dance I heard last month. I assume that you have not taken your phone in for an upgrade and that you probably just bought it with the latest software on it?

If you care to check your version, hit the top center button and then select the following:

Phone Info
Other Information
S/W Version

Interestingly enough when I returned I replaced the .plist file we have changed with the original and tried to connect again via USB and the device is found but can't be used to sync (just like my BT attempts said). So, I removed and reinstalled iSync and it still won't sync via USB like it used to do. Oh my God! I'm just loving this p.o.s.!

I guess I'm stuck until Verizon is able/willing to instal the 1.40 update over my 1.30

Thanks again,

Jim

Sorry about that previous message - I misread it to say it was working. Duh.

I think it may have to do with trying to have both USB and bluetooth syncing capabilities, too. I think they communicate differently, so getting it to work one way disables it's ability to work another way.

I mean, how logical would it be to be able to do BOTH? No way! :^)

This may sound dumb, but have you tried turning your phone on and off, too?

I posted this in another thread on the same subject and it seemed to work for me and someone else having the same issues.

I had this working before the 10.4.2 update and with the update it then quit. So I went in and followed the instructions as listed on the macosxhints site, but instead of replacing just the "com.motorola.usb-bt.0x22B8/0x4902" text I replaced all of the text from "<key>com.motorola.V710</key>" to "</dict>". I am not sure why this would make a difference, but it did.

When I went to set it up I made my phone discoverable, and opened iSync and went to "Add Device" rather than going through the bluetooth setup assistant. It saw the phone, allowed me to select calendars and address books to sync, etc.

Now it's working just as before.

Also, be sure to reboot your phone as well as your computer. You never know when that will make a difference. 🙂

Thanks for the advice--I figured out my issue--when I did the find function the v710 is actually listed twice in the isync resource. The first listing is for the v60, actually. And, that's where I did the first modification. Once I looked back at the code, when my frustration level went down, I realized the problem. I only needed to substitute the one line of code and it worked. Though, because I was not certain of the integrity of the resource, I downloaded and reinstalled isync.

Here is the link I used: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20050501151747917&query=motorola+v7 10 for the appropriate code as follows: "com.motorola.usb-bt.0x22B8/0x4902"
Here are the steps I took: 1. Removed all reference to the phone from Bluetooth and from iSync. 2. Edited the resource; 3. Restarted the computer; 4. Paired the phone with Bluetooth--and that caused iSync to open and place the phone into iSync. ONE other point--I was fearful of having corrupted iSync, so before I did any of this, I downloaded and installed a fresh copy of iSync.
This worked better than I had hoped!

I just purchased a motorola V710 phone to go along with my new 17" Powerbook eager to sync the two with bluetooth. But then iSync said that it didn't support it. I visited the link you've shown above, however, I don't know what you mean when you say you've "edited the resource" and i don't think that the website explained it much better either. Can someone please explain to me exactly how i do this?

But i am completely confused about how to get to "/Applications: iSync.app: Contents: PlugIns: ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice: Contents: PlugIns: PhoneModelsSync.phoneplugin: Contents: Resources: MetaClasses.plist" do i use the finder ? I am no good at changing code or anything like that so i guess i would be completely ignorant in this particular situation. Could you give me step by step instructions please? It would be greatly appreciated!!

OK i figured out how to get to the exact part where you change the "...usb..." to "...usb-bt...", however, from there i don't know what to do because when i save it, it saves as some like .oo3 file in my Documents folder, and then i still have the same problem with not being able to enable the synchronization of Address Book. What am I doing wrong??!?!
