I've read all the 815 posts here, and have asked this question before but can't seem to get an exact answer to it. I've searched everywhere else too. If I connect via USB, will I be able to trasfer music to the TransFlash card in the phone? Will the Finder see the drive? I realize this can't can't be done with my BT connection unless I do the hack that's now out there. I'm just wondering if I should buy the cable. The new iSync is working wonderfully for syncing via BT BTW. Thanks, everyone.

Anyone? Pretty Please. 🙂
You do not need a USB cable to transfer music files to the transflash card. You can insert the transflash directly into your Mac and transfer files via the finder, then re-insert the transflash into your e815.
To transfer files from your Mac to your transflash card, you need one of the following soultions: 1) a larger SD card that the transflash docks with, and then insert the SD card into a USB multimedia card reader to dock with your Mac or 2) a USB multimedia card reader that will accept the transflash card directly without the need for the SD card.
Did this help? BTW, let me know if you need instructions on how to use your own mp3 files as ringtones for the e815.

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping not to have to get a card reader, but I guess I do. I bought the Motorola USB cable real cheap off Ebay, andall though it works great for syncing, it doesn't work for file transfers - just like BlueTooth. I'lll be getting a reader soon. I would love if you could tell me about the ringtones! Also, with the card reader, can I assume taking pictures off of it works the same way from the Finder? Thanks again.
Purchase a San Disk Mobilemate SD+. It is a USB reader that supports about 6 different kinds of memory media, and you can plug the transflash directly into it or plug the transflash into a SD card housing and then put the SD housing into the Mobilemate. I purchased my Mobile mate from ebay a few months ago for around $15 - check around for other prices. I like it because it supports so many different kinds of media - I can use my SD memory card from my digital camera in it as well as the transflash.
Ringtones - here is the solution.
Make a ringtone (mp3 format) that is about 25 seconds long. You can do this with any song in iTunes using the export feature and also use itunes to edit the length of the song.
Transfer from your Mac to the transflash card. The directory structure should be motorola/shared/ringtone. (There is also an audio folder within the /shared folder, not sure if you should use this folder or the /ringtone folder, so I used the /ringtone folder). Insert the transflash card back into your e815.
1. On your e815, choose Media Gallery > Sounds. You should see all of the mp3 files you just loaded onto your transflash card (if you do not, make sure you to Switch Storage Device to select your transflash card instead of the phone)
2. Highlight the song you wish to use as a ringtone, then select the center menu button, then select Send in Message >Select
3. When the To: dialog box pops up, enter a fake number as the send address. I use 5551212@verizon.com. After entering this fake number, select OK.
4. Select OK again.
5. Select Send.
6. One of two things will happen at this point. 1) The phone will go through the motions of sending the message - you can see this via the progress bar or 2) the phone will display an error message saying something about not being able to send the message. Either of these scenarios is acceptable.
7. Now select your Message Center, and open your Outbox. You should have at least one message in the Outbox, which is the message you just attempted to send.
8. Highlight the message, then select Read. Your mp3 file should begin to play. Choose pause to stop the playback.
9. Select the center menu button, choose Save Items > Select. The dialog box will say Save What? at the top - make sure File is highlighted (it should be the only option you can choose). Choose Select.
10. The mp3 file should begin to play again. On the screen bottom right you should see Store. Select this. A dialog will then pop up asking where you want to store it - Transflash or Phone. Choose Phone.
11. Now that the mp3 file is stored on your phone, you should be able to select it as a ringtone.
Let me know if this method works for you. It worked for me using my old Motorola v710 cell phone, and it works for me on my new e815.
Cheers.

Brian, that is probably the best solution I've seen online. Got it to work with my E815 and powerbook. Thanks for the info!
Hey Brian
I see you have some knowledge on the e815. i have no problems with it yet, but I do have a question. I bought a transflash 128. I put 10 mp3's on the card to listen to. They total about 49 megs. Yet it tells me I have no more room on the card to put any more music on. I check the info of the files on the card and it tell me the same( that I have only used 49 megs). However when i check the info on the transflash card it tells me I have used up all the space. Where is all this extra space getting used?
Thanks for your help
