Verizon's Samsung SCH-i730 or Audiovox XV6600?

I've greatly appreciated all the input people provide on these forums. Although I still haven't found a good Verizon-Apple-Smartphone combo yet, I've eliminated some options! (I wish Apple would have a separate category for these cell phone discussions just to keep everyone's input together.) So first, just a general thanks for being such a helpful and polite forum community.

Okay, I've read about carriers, syncing, Verizon etc all over these forums. I haven't found much about the i730 or XV6600.

As per my and other's posts elsewhere, I'm not going back to the Treo 650 (and I'm thinking of switching from iCal and AB to Entourage for the smartphone) unless I find no better phone on Verizon so now I'd love to learn more about Verizon's Samsung SCH-i730 and Audiovox XV6600.

For people who use or otherwise have tried either one of these phones, on Verizon or even another carrier would be helpful, what have your experiences been with the phones themselves and with syncing calendar and contact information with Mac using either Apples iCal & AB or Entourage and iSync and/or any 3rd party syncing apps?

hello Michael,

I know how you feel about Verizon. I actually agree with you. In the discussion on Entourage vs. Apple's PIM, I had just replied to your post about why I was still going with Verizon (vs. GSM, etc). (In case you haven't gotten to read it yet, here's the link JNK, "Switch - Dump Apple, Use Entourage? for smartphones" #4, 11:37am Aug 29, 2005 CDT). I think things could change a lot in the next 6 months for Cingular but compare their coverage maps (I used the link you gave in another post to look at T-mobiles also) and I know from personal experience and anectodal comments of others that out in the mid-Atlantic/north east, Cingular still doesn't do as well for overall coverage and for continuous coverage (e.g. driving the length of the NJ or PA turnpike) as Verizon (see aforementioned post). And I have to get a new phone now - I desperately needed one in May but Verizon's bluetooth choices then were horrible and after returning to the US, researching choices again, having a horrible experience with the Treo 650, I feel as if 6 more weeks have flown by and still no phone. (sorry, I'm whining) So, I'm considering these 2 Verizon options for now.

No, I'm considering the SE but if I switch to a GSM carrier, as I think it was you who posted somewhere, then I should be able to choose any unlocked GSM phone and not be limited by the carriers. I used a basic Nokia this summer in Asia and loved it. I am impressed with Nokia, so far above all the others, and they do have a new smartphone with a Symbian OS that I like.

But for the reasons I mentioned in the other thread, I'm still trying to stay within Verizon, which is why this is another attempt to figure out if there non-Palm, Windows Mobile, PDAish smartphones are okay - particularly with syncing etc. I've got to choose one to try out first. I'm hoping that if anyone has any experience with either of the phones, that will make it easier to choose one or choose one that has a better chance of success.
