Ok- today I was playing in the snow with my family and had my iPhone in my pocket the entire day. It didn't get wet or anything, but when I came inside I noticed the sound wasn't working. The only sound my phone could make was the ringing from a phone call, and when I put my phone call on speaker phone. So, I tried a lot of peoples suggestions and put them together! Heres what I did:
1) I turned my iPhone off with the headphones in
2) I turned it back on with the headphones still in
3) I took the headphones out
4) I took a q-tip and jammed it in the hole where the headphones go, and cleaned out the hole a little bit
5) I sucked on the hole where you put your head phones in for a little while (crazy right?! But it works!!)
6) I plugged in head phones
7) While the headphones were still in I twisted them around in the hole a little bit
8) I repeaded stepps 6-7 7 times
Then it started working! YAY! I really suggest this method it worked for me! Just try a bunch of stuff, and if it still doesn't work and you still have your warranty you can get a new phone for free! Hope this helped 🙂
I've tried to do this and still my phones stuck in headphone, can't understand it I haven't used my head phones for ages it just happened, anymore ideas plz???
I've plugged and unplugged headphones about 20 different times, twisted the headphones in and it will still not come out of headphones mode. Help me in some way please.
i''ve tried everything and i cant get my phone out of headphones mode! any other ideas?
Try using some canned air while moving the nozzle in and out. This worked for me. I think mine had lint holding the contacts open.
Send yourself a text. It seems to reset it back to ringer. Might take a few times.
Text thing didn't work either......Same no sound problem here....I updated a few days ago. It appears to be a problem with the phone thinking it's in docking mode. That's the only time mine will work. I've tried everything that's been suggested. Cleaning the charging port w Qtips and alcohol, resetting, restoring, headphones etc to no avail. I'm going to ATT this weekend and shove this phone up someone's - well you know!
i've tried all the suggestion listed here but its no good to me, But when i was about to give up, I accidentally press my home button, and there comes SIRI, i talked to this virtual assistant telling her whatever on my mind that time. At first, Siri is not responding.. But after about 2-3 minutes, she suddenly responded and alas!! My iphone is back to ringer mode. Hope this information would help. :)
Same thing happened to me so i cut a qtip in half (the ends didnt fit) and then i scraped the inside and a little lint came out until after a few scrapes a pretty significant piece came out and now it is back to normal. I guess the lint and dust just builds up over time.
I dropped my phone in a sink full of water yesterday, quickly pulled it out and was overjoyed nothing seemed wrong, I didn't have a water proof case! My son called me to pick him up from school this am and when I answered (it rang) he could hear me but I couldn't hear him, So phone was in headphone mode, I tried restarting that didn't work but I followed these instructions exactly and it worked! Thank you!!!!
hi,
my 2 weeks old iphone 5S got stuck in headphone mode. here is how i fixed it (not my original workaround!). i tried a lot of other suggestions.......
use headphones and phone someone from your faulty phone. whilst speaking to the person lock your phone (without terminating the call). then pull out the headphone plug from the phone. it should be fixed now. if not, do a restart.

Hi buddys ...even me too face the same problem im frusterd too i try all the step and tip no use finally i connect with a usb cable charge in my laptop suddenly it start to work my god realy its happen u can try also ....sure it will work just connect ur iphone to ur lap r pc with charger cable thats it...njoy
I tried all you said, but bothing works for me...
I decide to take a look inside de audio jack, and i see a little bit of garbage stuck in the bottom. I removed it with a needle and voila! Problem solved!
Hope it help anybody :-D
I found a fix which worked quite well for me. Had tried all of the above suggested methods but none worked. I dissessembled a basic ballpoint pen and took out the tube which contains the ink. I used the back end of this (a skinned Q-tip would likely work as well), and put it in the headphone jack. I then went to a song, and noticed that if I put the tube in the right place in the headphone jack and pressed play the music would play through my speakers. I kept re-adjusting this and playing the music until it finally was playing the music through the speakers when nothing was in the headphone jack. It is now working proper, and headphones can be plugged in and taken out properly with no issues.
Turn on your alarm. Let it go off in locked mode.
Cancel and unlock. Voila!
This solution worked immediately!
I guess it works for the software/firmware version of this problem.
(It obviously will not work for lint-in-the-hole)
