iPhone stuck in "headphones" mode

Earlier I accidentally grabbed my iPod headphones instead of my iPhone headphones and I think I may have jammed them in there too far. Because now I can't hear any of the keyboard clicks or sounds and when I receive a text message there's no sound either. And when I receive a call it won't allow me to hear the person on the other line unless I put my headphones in or use the speaker function. And when I turn the ringer volume up/down it says "headphones" in parentheses as if it's been set to "headphones" mode or something! Is it possible that I jammed them in so far that my iPhone thinks my headphones are still plugged in? Did I just totally ruin my iPhone? What do I do? Anyone know how I can fix this? Thanks!

I cannot believe I had this issue today - literally 4 days before I get the iPhone7. I went into panic mode and spoke to Apple Support chat online - we spent almost an hour testing voice memos, restoring my phone from backup and as new - no luck. Then we got cut off 😕

But then someone else took over and 'kindly' warned me that I was out of warranty so I would be liable for any hardware costs. YAY! However they told me of the simple trick of getting a cotton bud and gently inserting it into the jack to clear it out. I had no cotton buds so I delicately used a cocktail stick. Five mins later of tiny bits of lint coming out, hey presto! A bigger ball comes out and my phone went back into ringer mode! I could have cried. Literally.

...and the beat goes on...Don't feel bad, youre not alone...Us "Old School" Cell guys just don't understand how this industry got so much away from performance and durability being paramount, to selling the look and sizzle. Its like buying a car, not caring about the engine, tranny, crash tests, etc; and only caring about the look and stereo inside...

Alright, I'm about to pull my hair out. Got the iPhone 5 august 28th, not even 3 weeks ago. And this headphone problem started happening about 2 days after, did the earplug thing and it went back normal for a few days. Then it did it again the next week, i used commpressed air to fix it for a good couple days. Then it went into headphone mode AGAIN, now when i used compressed air or haridryer, it will kick back in for about a minute but go back into headphone mode. I have literally tried every single techinque on here and many various google pages. Nothing has gotten it to permantly stay out of headphone mode. I need major help, what do I do??? Thanks

Omg!!! Two days of struggling with the phone trying to figure out what's wrong & I finally realized that this was the issue. I've tried sucking air(worked for the first try after which it reverted back to the headphones state), cleaning with a Q-tip( dunno if that worked) and then finally plugging & unplugging the earphones every time it showed 'headphones'.

Is someone having a relapse of this problem coz my phone keeps reverting back to the headphones mode. Can someone please give me a permanent solution???

Text thing didn't work either......Same no sound problem here....I updated a few days ago. It appears to be a problem with the phone thinking it's in docking mode. That's the only time mine will work. I've tried everything that's been suggested. Cleaning the charging port w Qtips and alcohol, resetting, restoring, headphones etc to no avail. I'm going to ATT this weekend and shove this phone up someone's - well you know!

I dropped my phone in a sink full of water yesterday, quickly pulled it out and was overjoyed nothing seemed wrong, I didn't have a water proof case! My son called me to pick him up from school this am and when I answered (it rang) he could hear me but I couldn't hear him, So phone was in headphone mode, I tried restarting that didn't work but I followed these instructions exactly and it worked! Thank you!!!!

iPhone 6 is stuck in headphones mode. Called Apple Care. Was sent to Verizon. Verizon wanted me to go to apple. When they heard Apple sent me to them they did the thing suggested in this thread. Nothing worked and so I had to purchase another phone. When that one comes in I have to send the broken phone to Verizon for credit. Until then I have to use a headset or speakerphone.

Poor customer service by both companies in my opinion. You're putting me in the back of the line to fix a phone I've had for 1 day AND I need to put money up to do it.

NONE of these suggestions worked for me! 😟 I have tried
1. putting the headphones in and out pretty much 1469 times (both while the phone was on, off, in locked mode, unlocked mode, in iTunes and out of iTunes)

2. cleaning out the headphone jack (with a toothpick, compressed air, q-tip, used a flashlight)

3. rebooting my phone (manually turning it off and force closing it by holding the home and power button)

I've read every article and watched every YouTube video on this problem and NADA has worked for me - someone help please!!

I have tried absolutely everything nothing works! A bit of water got splashed on it so I assume that's what did it. But now it's stuck in headphone mode and I cant hear anything. I tried blowing and sucking, un-plugging and plugging in headphones, turning of f and on my phone, restarting it, having someone call me and turning the speaker on and off and blowing cold air into it from the freezer. NOTHING WORKS sug. I'm very annoyed and worried it's unfixable. Does anyone have ANY other suggestions?!?!?
