i tried everything i could think of i sucked on the headphone jack look to see for debris or anything suck and nothing i turned it on and off several times and still nothing so i was desperate i grabbed my blow dryer i set it on high and bam it worked i could hear everything hope this helps you an saves you money
Bizarre, I have also had the problem with the headphone jack thinking it was connected sporadically. I have found that it seems to start when I try and access video clips on Facebook. Tried many of the suggestions on this thread without success. Was dubious but gave the sucking trick a go and low and behold it actually fixed the problem!!!! In 'Music' if you select the 'Airplay' icon below the 'Play' button it had been showing 'Headphones'. After the sucking it reverted to 'iPad'. Don't know why there can't just be an option to select iPad when it has headphones selected to make the change without the sucking.
This happened to me today and I seen this and didn't think it would work and I was wrong thank you I now have sound

I had this problem, horrible issue. Tried most of the fixes but none worked for me, I recommend this:
- Make a call to someone, doesn't matter who
- Your phone should go into speaker mode and you should be able to hear the phone call
- Keep plugging in and unplugging some earphones while on call
- End the call and it should be fixed.
This worked for me at least, hope this helps someone! :/
I tried everything until I actually stuck the canned air little red tube in there and blew.
THANK YOU!!

I've just had this problem - definitely a software problem in my view - my iPhone 5s is up to date...
Was running bbc iplayer yesterday on blue tooth hands free.. today the phone thinks it's plugged into headphones...
rebooting made no difference. Tried cleaning the jack plug and plugging in headphones....didn't work.
Started iplayer which now had no sound - plugged in headphones - could hear audio through the headphones
on removal of the headphones - hey presto the audio on the phone started working again...hope this helps.
Worked like a charm for me. Thanks a bunch.
This was after trying all the tips and tricks with absolutely no luck.
It worked for mine too! Ridiculous but effec
Had somewhat of a similar issue with my iPhone 6s. After spilling a very small amount of water on my phone, it dropped into my phone case and was sitting between my phone and my case. Water then got into my ear jack but didn't notice till I realized my sound wasn't working and it was only in "headphones" mode. Immediately tried sucking the water out cause my sister suggested it, but it didn't help. I tried letting it sit in rice overnight, didn't really fix the issue of the headphones mode. I tried plugging and unplugging the earphone jack several times and doing that with pressing play on music, and it didn't work. Oddly enough, when I was called, my speakers would work and ring, but when I answered the call I was only able to hear the other person when they were on speaker, I tried the q tip and I tried compressed air.
THE ONE LAST THING THAT I TRIED THAT WORKED for some odd reason, was I set my timer up for 1 minute and let it ring, I was in messenger so once I turned the timer off from the push notification, i continued texting and the sound just randomly started working again.
I was playing around with my iPhone jack and tried blowing air in and sucking air out but nothing worked. I then used a q tip and cut the cotton down to a size that fit in my jack. I stuck the q tip in and twisted it out and out came a lot of black stuff stuck to the q tip. I checked and realized the phone had changed to iPhone mode. Hope this helped. (Make sure your headphones are clean before your you plug them in.)
phone slid into sink while faucet was one. getting it slightly wet.
lighter (flame) under headphone jack for 2-3 seconds, followed by hairdryer all across the bottom for 10-15 seconds while phone was OFF then turned back on worked for me.
qtip and other methods did not.
This worked for me !!!
iPhone stuck in "headphones" mode Earlier I accidentally grabbed my iPod headphones instead of my iPhone headphones and I think I may have jammed them in there too far. Because now I can't hear any of the keyboard clicks or sounds and when I receive a text message there's no sound either. And when I receive a call it won't allow me to hear the person on the other line unless I put my headphones in or use the speaker function. And when I turn the ringer volume up/down it says "headphones" in parentheses as if it's been set to "headphones" mode or something! Is it possible that I jammed them in so far that my iPhone thinks my headphones are still plugged in.To fix it do that hold home button and locked button in same time then bring a disinfectant to clean headphones place with cotton stick because I think that something stuck in,Then your iphone be''Ringer'' mode that's made your problem was solved.
This works. I've tried so many things and this was the one thing that worked. You might need to suck in a couple times. But thanks man!!
Thank you for the advise as it had really worked for me. I was worried as my phone had just came back from fix
