---New 1.1 firmware could brick iPod Classic !--

Be very careful with this update...

I've just installed it on my iPod (I don't make any mystakes while upgrading,I own iPods since 2003..)and instead of rebooting and upgrading the firmware, my Classic just shutdown, and then I can't turn it on anymore (and even connect it to my PC) : the MENU+SELECT combinaison don't work for rebooting it : it don't show the Apple logo anymore, just a blank screen, as if the iPod was dead, and I think it is.

There's nothing else I can do as much as I know iPods. I'll send it to repair...

this is what happened step by step, i was listening to music when it happened:

1) update, 3 hours ago
2) listening the Fallen by Evanescence
3) ipod plays 2 songs and then skips about 3 (it goes through them but dosent play them)
4) i reset my ipod
5) ipod just keeps resetting
6) enable disk mode (select + play/pause)
7) itunes says to restore, i restore
8) ipod resets, and resets, and resets.

its stuffed.

Hey team,

I had the same problem last night when I updated my firmware. I got an error before it was supposed to restart then It was completely unresponsive. For some unknown reason in the past if you have a bit of patience the iPod will fix itself. So I left my iPod all night with my big headphones plugged in, hoping the battery would die or something (it was in the red before I "updated" it.) This morning I tried resetting it again, with no avail. I then tried to plug it into my AC wall adapter and it fired right up. So my advice to anyone who's 'pod is fried is to plug in some headphones and wait. (Or go to an Apple store, I didn't have that option, I don't even know if there's an Apple store in my Province...)

I had the problem with tracks skipping and my ipod was only 3 days old (got it on thursday night) So i took it back to the shop this morning and got a brand new one. But that one does the skipping thing with the original firmware so I think thats an iTunes problem as its not the music files as they play in everything on my PC, burn to a CD and play from that as well.
Now I've foolishly put a few songs on the new one to 'test' it using iTunes 7.6 and its still skipping so how can I format my ipod so its 'out of the box' again without any songs or settings files on it?
I've bought Anapod to manage it now so am just waiting now to get that activated and wont be using iTunes anymore!

He Paulo1105

Did you leaf the ipod connect to the machine for the night and tried to reset in in the morning or did you disconnected for the night and try to reset it in the morning.

I am asking this, because I also update the ipod classic with a new firmware and it is dead also

thx for helping

My Ipod Classic died after installing the v1.1 update, just died, I had nothing on the screen at all and would not respond. Now all you people that are stressing calm down, just follow the steps on the Apple Website that tell you to leave it for 24hrs, then plug it in to charge, because thats what I did and it worked a treat. So here it is:

1. Disconnect and leave for 24hrs (it will discharge itself in this time)
2. Plug into a wall charger (not sure if USB works, have not tried)
3. Get back to enjoying your music!!!

Its pathetic that the ipod does this, but this is quicker than waiting to get it fixed! Hope this helps anyway.
