Need help with Port 3689

Hello - I have followed the instructions from Apple & McAffee (security software) to open both TCP Port 3689 and UDP Port 5353 and removed any conflicts. My iTunes sees the Apple TV as a Device. It shows the GB left on the hardrive, etc. but when I go to sync a 3689 Port Error is displayed and the Apple TV disappears from iTunes. Any ideas to correct this problem?

It says; "The Apple TV "Apple TV" is not responding. Check that any firewall software running on this computer has been set to allow communication on port 3689.

I get the same issue and I'm running on a Mac! No-one seems to know what the issue is!!!

Very frustrating my Apple TV just sits downstairs and does nothing now, won't sync at all

Simply restart Apple TV. Worked for me after updating iTunes 7.6. I also turn off AirPort Express... don´t know it I had the conflict because it was on for the first time simultaneously.

I had the same message, and as a PC user I simply chose the repair option for iTunes in Add/Remove Programs. It immediately began syncing after I restarted iTunes.

If you're using McAffee's firewall make sure the Windows firewall is disabled. If the Windows firewall is also enabled that could be the cause of the problem.

Run the "Disk utilty" program. Highlight your drive name and click repair permissions

DrWho, what do you mean "turn off airport express"? I'm assuming you have an airport express utilized for airtunes, but why would that conflict with AppleTV?

I just powered down my Apple TV by unplugging it and doing a cold-restart and after it rebooted it is now synching fine.

Same problem. I just disconnected from power source for more than 30 secs and it booted again. Sync with itunes worked. Hope this helps.

I've had the same thing happen today after reinstalling my computer from scratch. I did a repair install of iTunes and that solved the problem.

Thanks! Unpluging the ethernet cable worked for me.

Not the best solution, but it seems better and faster than rebooting the ATV...

It was NetBarrier X5. Cut off the Apple TV for "flooding". Removed it from stop list and all is well again.
