can't iSync my Nokia 6630

Help with this would be appreciated. In short, I go to add device when I sync, and my phone isn't recognised.

I have been through every step (paring my phone using blue tooth with my iBook). Going through blue tooth set up and so on. It says congratulations you are connected, but iSync says otherwise. I think the problem is with iSync agent, which is not downloaded onto my phone. I've set the apps in the 6630 to on and to accept programmes, but that is not working either.

Thanks - Nigel

Have you tried connecting your buetooth to any other device?
I have the reverse problem: everyone "sees" everyone, iSync send a configuration message to my mobile, but it seems that the mobile can't install that specific application for everything to be synchronized. But sending and receiving files can be easily done with the application Buetooth utility (or something like that). Have you tried?
The point is we wanted everything to be synchronized, right? (contacts, iCal...)

I don't think there is any sync app or agent deposited on the phone. At least, I did not see one.

1) you have to set up the phone in Blue tooth as a paired phone FIRST, before you set it up in iSync. Delete the phone from iSync, BT, etc. and restart. Also, delete the computer from BT on the phone. (You can only pair with one computer for syncing, although you can send files, photos etc, with more than one computer or device.
2) Now you start over and pair with one computer for syncing. (Answer: for syncing w/more than one 'puter, use the iPod for that.) Be sure and check the boxes authorizing the device to sync when you set it up in BT.
3) Now go to iSync and add the device. It should show up when you scan for devices. Be sure the phone is set up to show itself.
4) On the phone, go to BT preferences. Add the computer as an authorized device.
5) Set up sync for the first time.
6) Close iSync. Start sync from the control bar at the top of the screen.

If you still have an error, go to iSync and find the Synclog command under Window. Look at the log, It may give you some ideas if you are still having problems.

Also, Symbian phones seem to work when you turn the phone on and off a couple of times before syncing.

I tried this, but with no luck. I thought it might be the iSync program itself, so I tried Syncing the iPod, but with no luck either - it wasn't recognised. So, possibly rashly, I used spotlight to find everything with iSync in the name and trashed them. I then downloaded a new version of iSync.

Unfortunately, iSync now has the generic app icon, and when I try and open it it just bounces up and down in the Dock a few times and then dissapears. I ran Disk Repair in my OS X Tiger disc, but no luck. I reloaded again, installed again, but same problem. I looked for prefernces to bin them (apparently that can often be the problem with bouncing non-opening apps) and I couldn't find any!

I'm beginning to think that perhaps I don't need iSync after all.

Since iSync is an OS application since Tiger, you can't "just download" it. It sticks with the OS, so you will have to re-install your system (or use Pacifist) to re-install iSync.
Note that trying iSync with iPod is a no-go since iSync don't sync iPod now (it's iTunes job)
Finally, once you have iSync up and running (make sure you have iSync 2.1 installed), here is the "normal" steps you should have to add your phone to iSync:
1) go to Bluetooth Setup Assistant (with System Preferences -> Bluetooth -> Setup new device, for example)
2) follow the steps (pairing and all). Normally, it should propose to add phone to iSync
3) finish the assistant, it should launch iSync. After some seconds, phone should be added to iSync and the application should propose to send an application to your phone. Agree, follow the steps and install that application on your phone. That application handles the sync between the computer and the phone.
4) Enjoy

If your phone does not add after Assistant pairing, quit the assistant, make sure iSync is running and use "Add new device". Your phone should appear in the list.
