Slow Typing In Mail: A Permanent Fix???

Ultra slow typing in Mail seems to be a Leopard "feature". Quitting and starting again, restores a semblance of good behaviour. Not as fast as, say, TextEdit, but acceptable. And then it starts slowing down once again... until one quits and restarts.

This seems to be a bona fide bug. Is there a "true" fix?

Sampler stopped working but I got one trace from Shark in its rare moments of not crashing. This is where all the CPU time goes while typing in Mail.app. It looks a bit like a memory leak slowing down a linear search. There's no hint of a workaround except quitting and relaunching.

I just started experiencing very slow typing also. However, it seems to be happening not only in Mail program, but also on Safari. I have had this MacBook Air since they came out and I can't stand this. It's really aggravating. Has a fix come out yet besides constantly restarting? Even with restart, it becomes slow again. Thanks!

Same issue here, after Mail has been open for a day or two, typing any text in a new message is terribly slow. The CPU usage for Mail goes up to about 80-90% every time a key is pressed. If I quit and reopen, it works fine again. Under normal conditions, typing in Mail only uses up about 10-15% of the CPU as reported by Activity Monitor.

I noticed no difference when replying to an existing message or composing a new one. I suggest everyone who is experiencing this report it, perhaps at http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html.
