Movie rental time limit: 24 hours not enough?

If I am in the middle of watching a movie and the 24 hour limit is up, does the movie just quit or will it keep playing until it's finished?

And is it just me, or is 24 hours not long enough? Suppose at 7:00 I decide to rent Cinderella for the kids, but by 8:00 they're all asleep. They'll have to wait until the next night to watch it, but unfortunately when the clock strikes 7, the rental, like Cinderella's coach disappears. It might play to completion if I start it at 6:59, but if I wait until 7:01 to continue it, I'm SOL

Wouldn't a 30-hour time limit make more sense?

Well, from the FAQ is says:

Can I play my rental on more than one device?

If you download a rented movie on your computer, you can transfer it to your Apple TV, iPod, or iPhone. Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only be viewed on one device at a time. If you rent the movie on your Apple TV, it is not transferable to any other device and you must watch it on your Apple TV.

The "You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only be viewed on one device at a time" part is a bit strangely-worded.

So, I may be completely wrong. Anyone know?

I just bought an Apple TV and downloaded a movie last night at around 8 PM on a Thursday Night. I started watching it, went to dinner, go home and started watching it again but was tired and stopped it because I fell asleep and went to bed. So...now I must go to work on Friday, rush home after work and finish it or hit the button and start watching before 8 PM or it will expire! The 30 day rule is really stupid in my opinion and I'm not sure what the reason is for this. Most people will play a movie they rent pretty quickly not 30 days after they download it. On the flip side, the 24 hour rule is really unfair and defeats the whole point of the "digital age" where you can have access to the file. This is especially true since it's not like a video store where the product is "checked out" and not in stock. I love the Apple TV but unless they change the rules on the movie rentals, I'm not going to be using this feature unless I'm 100% sure I can finish the movie in one sitting. Whatever the rationale for this 24 hour feature.....it's very consumer unfriendly! Sooner or later somebody will figure out the 24 hour rule is limiting rentals....hopefully, sooner!

I don't mind 30 day limit. They could even drop it to 14. But I have kids, and don't have 2 hours to watch a movie. I'm not asking for a lot -- just 30 hours. That lets me watch it over 2 days.

Also, I tried to rent a movie tonight, and it won't complete the transaction.

Finally, the movie rental options stink. I wanted to rent Into the Wild or You Me and Dupree. Not available.

I guess the service isn't ready for primetime yet. Too bad. I would like to just do all my video watching through iTunes.

I do agree with the time and would like to see it a little longer but it is nice that if you are watching a movie it will not end in the middle when your time is up. It will allow you to watch the rest of the movie and then will remove the movie when you get to the end or exit all the way out. I just tried this on the appletv last night so i am ok with the time lines as they are.

Way to go Apple, another great job done.
