iTunes 7.6 Keeps Freezing!

i just upgraded to 7.6, after having numerous problems with 7.5. now i still have all of the problems of 7.5 (burning/importing very very slow), but now, itunes 7.6 keeps freezing for like 30 secs, about every other minute. its INCREDIBLY annoying. anyone got any tips on how to fix this?

example: when i right click on a song, the menu doesnt pop up for 30 secs, and if im listening to a song, the track time will freeze for about 30 secs.

I upgraded my daughters laptop from itunes 7.5.0.20 to 7.6.0.29 and almost immediately after this, itunes froze the entire machine when itunes was started. The only way to reboot the machine (task manager was also inaccessible) was to hold the power button down to switch it off. After restarting the laptop the same thing happened every time.

My solution:
1. Backup the itunes folder to an external HD.
2. Install 7.5 (thankfully I had access to the itunessetup.exe version 7.5)
3. Rename the file 'itunes library.itl' to something else otherwise itunes will not open as the file was created with a later version of itunes.
4. Open itunes and 'Add folder to Library...'
5. Navigate to the 'itunes music' folder inside the My Documents --> My Music --> itunes folder. All the music was imported along with Album artwork.

Thankfully everything is working again. I doubt I will upgrade her machine until I have tested itunes on another machine.

Hope this helps you guys having problems with 7.6!

ok, so I did it. upgrade to 7.6.1... and it is better. I would recommend trying it out. Of course back up your shazit(and extra copy of that library file) and remove all things Apple on your system, then run ccleaner and reboot and then download from the +quicktime page+ . My library loaded up no problem. I tested it with an album purchase and a movie rental.
success
Alright not 100%, but a great improvement. My warning is to watch out for the processing part of the downloading. still some freezing. nothing like before, just the processing part of the download, other then that I've had no problems. no really

keep us/me posted

good luck and may the force be ....

i have read in another thread that iTunes not opening at all (even though it shows in Task Mgr) is a common problem with new 7.6.1 iTunes downgrade (they are all downgrades since 7.5).

one solution was to change/modify your Quicktime preferences and some ppl seem to find success in getting iTunes to actually open after those adjustments.

I would check to make sure Apple hasn't increased the # of hidden software from many to massive amounts of programs & services it is installing, as those could be clogging up your CPU.

If you iTunes does open fine, but freezes constantly when trying to play or a song...or just staring at it, it freezes.. then delete all your non-Apple friendly video files.

(Any files that are not Quicktime default formats which are: .mpg, mpeg)

Apparently Apple hates you unless you are 100% Apple.

If you iTunes doesn't even open, then its a Quicktime problem in the 7.6.1 downgrade. Delete Quicktime - think twice about letting Apple on your computer again - and reinstall Quicktime.
