Gmail iPod Touch Problem

It looks like Google requires CAPTCHA authentication for any application that uses Google's API. By disabling it on your account, CAPTCHA is no longer required. More likely Mail for the iPod touch is receiving authentication errors from Google because CAPTCHA isn't being used in the Mail app.

For those who don't know what CAPTCHA is... It is specially formatted text that is difficult for automated bots to hack, and that only humans can read. You normally see CAPTCHA used when you create an account for a web site, among other uses.

Okay, so I'm still struggling with accessing Gmail from my iPod Touch.

I have enabled IMAP in my Gmail settings, as well as completed the captcha thing for my account.
I have tried setting up my new account as both the preferred 'other', as well as the provided 'gmail' options.
I have tried my username and the servers as both 'gmail.com' and 'googlemail.com' (as the Gmail help files indicate) and all combinations thereof.
And yes, there is wifi.

Despite all this, my verification is not completed because it cannot connect, using SSL or not. I'm out of solutions. Help!

Go to settings>mail on your ipod and select your google account that is not working. Click on delete account at the bottom. Then go back to settings>mail and add account... Select gmail from the selections and re-enter your information that it asks for.

Are you able to access your google mail from outlook on your pc? If so have you tried using the sync mail settings from the itunes/ipod other tab to sync over the account settings. Also double check the settings in your google account to make sure you have enabled imap access, and it is still turned on.

I'm also having trouble with Gmail on my iPod Touch.

When I first set it up it worked and downloaded 50 messages. Now it hangs on "checking for mail". Nothing happens!!
I've tried re-creating my account a multiple amount of times! Enabled "POP" and "IMAP"

I got an error for it, but it might not apply to you, because Google is the front-end of my school's email system, so my email address is different.

You need to unlock CAPTCHA on your GMail account.

Goto the Mail preferences and select the GMail account.
Please post your port settings there.

I had the same issue. you need to go to your gmail account on your computer, click settings in the top right corner, go to forwarding imap/pop, click enable imap. save. done.

That worked for me as well. What did that page do for my Gmail account?

Yes, I have deleted and recreated my email account multiple times, through both the "other" as well as "Gmail" options.

Sometimes it says - "downloading 1 0f 5" etc.
But then it says "updated at 7:03pm" at the bottom when the current time is 12am ?
and nothing new in the inbox :S

*Am I the only one experiencing this problem??!*
