Dual Quad-core Mac Pro reboots from sleep

Wanted to chime in and say the my week old 2.8ghz octo mac pro running 10.5.2 has been doing the same thing. Resetting the PRAM and the SMC seemed to have fixed it at least for now.

No. Has happened with both.

Sigh. Reboot on wake with Fusion, too. Same kind of thing as Parallels. If I do not start Fusion since a prior reboot, then computer wakes properly.

Hopefully Apple will sort through this soon... 😟

My new MacPro arrived first thing Monday morning...Up and running in seconds.

Now, the oddest thing: No matter what I do in Energy Saver and Desktop & Screen saver Prefs Panel this machine will not sleep. No way, no how.

I can set to sleep by pressing the power button (from which it always wakes immediately without any Restart problems). But this is the only way the new MacPro will sleep.

Have Apple changed the firmware to temporarily bypass the problem until a sure fix is found? Or have I got another duff machine?

I have no idea why this new machine will not sleep at all unless via Power Switch.

Just another one for the list: Mac Pro dual 2.8 Quad, 8 Gb of original RAM, reboots after sleep even when NO Firewire or USB devices attached other than Mac keyboard and mouse.

I can sort of confirm this. Well, sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't.
I don't see a pattern to this.
Weird. I just had another waker-from-sleep restart. Apple, please fix this!

After following this topic for a number of days, I think it's time for Apple to acknowledge this issue. In post after post, people are expressing frustration that their high end machine ($$$$$$) is malfunctioning without an apparent cause and without a predictable pattern.
Folks at Apple please take note: your reputation as a premier technology designer/manufacturer and provider of superior customer support is experiencing some serious damage. Early adopters and high end purchasers tend to be pretty vocal.

Just so you know, if you really want Apple to "take note" then this forum is not the proper vehicle. This forum is user-to-user. The better place to actually tell Apple what you're thinking is on the Mac Pro feedback page.

Hopefully, all of the posters here are also posting their issues there as well. More likely to get results than solely posting here.

this didn't work for me. I swapped the original drive for a better and faster one right away and put it in bay 1. My mac pro still reboots from sleep on occasion.

Follolw the instructions for resetting SMC - unplug the system from power source, let it sit for a few minutes or better yet, over night. That should at least fix it though may not be permenant for now.

My Mac Pro has "behaved" for over 2 weeks now. If I can only figure out what did it. I've installed XP with Bootcamp on a partitioned internal drive in Bay 2. I've also done a Carbon Copy Clone of my Main HD on an External HD. And I tried all the other "fixes" first, but they did not help. Or maybe I have just been lucky for 2 weeks.

I do that (and reset PRAM) every few days. Seems to provide only temporary relief.

This is intriguing - but I think far from conclusive.
I have no doubt in David's report; only that this needs to be narrowed down further. We know that stock or not stock drives don't matter. Same as for number of drives; not sure anyone has only one drive in their Mac Pro. But we know we have the problem with 2, 3 OR 4 drives. Many users only have one bootable partition. Some have Raid (and I assume you cannot just mix around software-raided drives). In other words, if the solution is to just 'mix things up' we'd need to understand if it's bays that are affected, if the firmware has issues with x number of drives, and so on.
In the end, and I am a fan of everyone trying to resolve this/narrow this down!- the answer / solution has to come from Apple, nonetheless...

Mine hasn't rebooted at wake again either. It only did it a couple times before I tried all the steps listed in the forum so I'm not sure what really worked. Everything seems to be working OK now, but of course now I'm paranoid. I wonder why some machines are doing it every time and some have only done it a few times??
