In GarageBand how do I remove white noise/static?

I have to put my microphone on high input because it isnt too great. Is there a filter in garage band (like thte one in Audacity) that gets rid of this background static/white noise? how do i turn it on?

Macbook 2.0 ghz, Mac OS X (10.5.1), love it!

I use Sound Soap if I need to, but it's a paid plugin.

You could mess around with the AU graphic EQ. Then create a preset for when you need it again.
