iTunes could not sync contacts to the iPhone because the iPhone disconnecte

Has anyone else experienced this? I deleted some groups from address book an now I get this message anytime I try to sync. It's really starting to get to me because the iPhone has in fact, NOT disconnected. At least physically, iTunes thinks it has and so does the phone (the sync in progress message goes away and you just see the battery charging image). The phone still shows in iTunes Devices area. I'm using the newest version of iTunes and iPhone firmware 1.1.3.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Joe

Looks like it is fixed for me . . .
I was able to follow the Tom Bobo instructions and so far so good.
I can't put a finger on what may have caused it. I have been putting up with it for weeks because I always have better things to do than delve into the workings of my Mac / iPhone. I do have several identities in my address book and swap "me" to and fro to fool Pages into using the right ID for the particular company I am representing. Could that be a cause?
