Apple TV 2.0 ??

I believe the HD format movies for rent will also be available after the update.

just left the apple store here in WI - they said the release should be today (but I am not near my ATV to see if it is updating).

Yes, but us literalists also know that the keynote was over by 11am Pacific. So what gives??

I'd expect to see Apple's site change once it hits.

A customer service rep just told me that the update *isn't scheduled for release until February*. I complained about how misleading the Apple web site is about the software. All over the place it says that movie rentals are available on AppleTV.

I would expect that the software is in the can, but they're trying to set up redundant servers and communication lines so that the demand for the update doesn't swamp their servers and cause a hue and cry about how "bad" the download was.

Besides, no matter what Apple does or doesn't do, people who want to complain will find some way to complain.

and I was then transferred to another rep that put me on hold for a minute and came back with "it says that the update is scheduled for release later this month". She confirmed that meant January.

So... it seems that no one at Apple even has a clue when this will happen.

It says "Coming Soon" pretty much everywhere it says Movie Rentals on ATV. Don't get confused by the iTunes rentals, those are available now.

I think we are a few hours away from an update. They just released iWork updates. It could be as late as 11:59 tonight, but I have a strong feeling it is coming today.

They dont know. They are working on bugs. It's a no win for them .... either they release an unfinished buggy version and listen to you all bi tc h....or they release it late and listen to the same...

When I bought my Apple TV about 4 days ago, the woman selling it to me actually quoted January 29 as the date when the 2.0 update will be available. That's a bit specific... I'd say there was some internal memo that told the rep's to quote that date... I wouldn't lose hope on an update coming today.

TW, just wanted to confirm something I've been wondering about. If I travel internationally with my US notebook with the US version of itunes I'll be able to rent movies on my notebook while say in a hotel overseas? Seems like that's what you did but just wanted to confirm that I can wait to rent the movies once I'm there.
