Apple TV 2.0 ??

I just purchased an apple tv (yesterday) Jan 21 '08.

It has software ver. 1.1??

Do the "new ATV's" also have to wait for this 2.0 upgrade?

or did I get an old one?

Thanks for the insight.

Not for Software updates. I should have been clear.

Can you guys find those on your searches...?

I can empathize with your frustrations, but really, i the grand plan of things, this is very minor. I still await a 10.5.2 update that will solve what has to be the buggiest releases to date for a MAC OS, and I have been going since 9.0...
I also would like a cut and past on my iphone.

Not for Software updates.

Software updates are usually released as needed to fix bugs or patch security holes. In this case, the 2.0 software is being billed as an upgrade. It's a major revision of the software (thus the 2.0 designation). Such upgrades usually have release dates.

...this is very minor.

It's minor from the standpoint that none of us really need these toys in the first place and we could all probably be doing something more fulfilling with our lives, but Apple created this expectation and then failed to deliver. The subsequent complaining is on Apple, not the users.

I absolutely agree with you that this is fairly minor in the grand scheme of things. I'll admit to being confused by Jobs' keynote, thinking that the ATV 2.0 was available immediately and then being disappointed to realize it wasn't, but we're talking about features we've never had so waiting a couple more weeks is not a big deal. Yes there was hype and yes we're excited about it, but there are bigger problems in the world than our having to wait for these updates! I would rather wait for a high quality product than have a buggy one today.

I have tried and you CAN NOT move a rented movie from iTunes to an AppleTV.

I am assuming that you have to wait for the AppleTV update to watch rented movies on AppleTV. The round-about-solution I came up with is to transfer the rented movie onto an iPod and connect the iPod to your TV.

This is rather disappointing since there is online documentation that ambiguously states that you can "move" (or "watch") rented movies from iTunes on your AppleTV.

Well, suffice to say, I can not wait for the AppleTV software update since this is a huge improvement and something that is better than buying movies (and taking up hard-drive space).
