Why does Motion suck?

Motion is possibly the most unstable application Apple has ever written, next to Leopard. I created a very simple 3D project in Motion. It consists of a gradient background, 2 particle emitters (one that was included with Motion), a small Logo object, 4 lights and one static camera. Motion was fairly stable while building the project, crashing only a few times. Upon completing the project, I rendered it a few times to make sure the look and motion was right, and it played back fine. I tried to export it using the animation codec...it crashed the app and OS after 5 minutes. So I tried exporting it using Compressor instead...again, crashed the entire OS turning the screen black. Now, when trying to open the same project, I get nothing but an empty viewer...the project won't display anything but a black screen, and when I attempt to turn off a layer or change ANYTHING for that matter, I get the spinning beachball forever and I have to force-quit Motion. This makes no sense whatsoever.

So, I ask the question...can anyone explain to me why Motion ***** so bad and is so completely unstable? Why is it doing this?

The new cards will of course help Motions performance. That dosent seem to be your problem. Dont run out and buy one. Your problem is somewhere else. I run a quad G5 with a 256 x1900. I was on tiger until last week, made the switch to leopard and after only a few hang ups am running fine.

I run 16 gigs of RAM and that seems to help on longer previews ( lately all my stuff has been 60 to 120 second 1080p projects) Its not the realtime I had always hoped for. I feel your frustration but hold off buying anything until you have worked your way through this issue.

Keep us posted..... Im staring to get real serious about buying a machine like yours as soon as I can confirm that you can run 2 X1900's, each dedicated to a single monitor.

Hey guys...you know that fix concerning the Ozone plug-in? Well, although I have not ever gotten an error message with that particular problem listed, I decided to attempt the fix as suggested...CRASH!

Got an error message claiming the Ozone plug-in may be the problem...so now on top of the other crazy crashes I have been getting bombarded with, I now have a new one. Who was it I should thank for this? Just kidding...it was worth a shot anyway. Motion can't get much more broken than it already is right now.
