h.264 gamma and/or color off

Anything I export as h.264 using QTPro looks washed out and the colors are off. Is there any way to tweak the export settings to correct this?

Wondering if anyone can help me through the following encoding minefield:

Adstream here in Australia distributes commercials to the stations for on-air. They normally injest content off Digital Betacam. They also have an express method for jobs with extra tight turnarounds via H264 delivered over FTP. Personal strong reservations about H264 being a mastering format aside, deadlines dictate that sooner or later I will be forced to use this path. I'm just trying to work out how on earth this is going to work, what with the plethora of ways H264's gamma seems to be interpreted across software and machines.

From my tests so far I online with the Uncompressed 10bit codec and write a H264 file out of FCP (or create via Quicktime Pro - the results are the same). From here things get a little weird. When I bring the H264 file back into FCP and compare to the source I get a luma shift (to the order of .19), as well as comparatively mild saturation and hue shifts. The gamma correction isn't an option here as it does nasty things to the highlights.

HOWEVER, when I compare the two in After Effects and Shake I see no difference. The three programs are obviously handling the gamma correction differently. My problem is trying to find a foolproof path to deliver this **** codec. To complicate things I need to find an export path from Flame that works as well. Would love to hear how other people are dealing with these insidious new mastering formats.
