Until the iPhone can function as a PDA

Before the iPhone I managed my contacts, calendar and notes on a Tungsten Palm T5. I browsed the web and retrieved email through my bluetooth enabled sony phone as a modem to the T5. Then came the iPhone which I hoped would replace both devices. Unfortunately, the iPhone does not yet deliver the functionality of the pda so I currently have developed the following work around.

Email and calls are done on the iPhone. Calendar and Todo are done on the Palm. I sync the Palm to my iMac through Missing Sync which updates iCal with appointments and todos. I sync the iPhone through iTunes but only enter calendar events and notes on the palm. I use spanning sync to sync with my google calendar on the web.

While this works, I would prefer to do it all on the iPhone. But that must wait until true PDA functionality is available on the iPhone.

I know. But my issues are with the ability to schedule events and todos directly on the iPhone. While you can do this it is not as practical as dedicated pdas. As an example, making an appointment with an existing contact requires keying in all the contacts information even though standard pda practice is to just look up the contact record. iPhone does not yet allow for Notes to desktop though their are numerous work arounds. Others include search features and storage of documents. While I suspect these will eventually be available through Apple updates or 3rd party apps I rely too much on PDA functionality to wait. So Palm remains in my pocket.

PS. There is no doubt that the iPhone is capable of such features and more but not yet.

i agree, i was hoping that the iphone i received as a birthday/christmas gift would replace my razr phone & palm lifedrive without a hitch - but i can't download the medical programs i like to use for work (granted, there's the internet but it takes too long to load sometimes, and not as user friendly as the programs i had on my lifedrive.

i also miss my calendar reminders - yes, the iphone reminds me of events i have added to my calendar, but i can't "snooze" the event on my phone. that it itself was kind of like a to do list for me.

i am glad that they came up with a solution to texting multiple people - but they need a way that we can forward text messages, too.

i miss trying to record video clips of my nieces, nephews, and dog. use to be able to do that on my razr phone.

other than that, i think that's all i'm looking for more out of my iphone.
