Strange Gmail/iPhone Problem

I have 4 gmail accounts on my iPhone- always worked fine so far. Since about Thursday my main (gmail) account exhibits some odd behavior.

The most recent message doesn't appear on the iPhone (Mail). It may take up to 24 hours for the most recent message to finally appear in Mail. If a newer email gets into my gmail inbox, the previous message (that wasn't available on the iPhone) suddenly appears in Mail- but the most recent message doesn't.

I've deleted/re-added the email account on my iphone, and disabled/reenabled IMAP in my Gmail account- to no avail. The other 3 gmail accounts work w/o any problems.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Same problem here. it basically seems to work when it wants. After many months of perfect and fast excellent gmail spread over two computers and an iphone (a powermac and a G4 mirror) all running leopard the last week has been a mess. deleting re-adding seems to help for 1 pass, and the messages do eventually get to the inbox, but they are not coming in like they used to. strangely the iphone seems to respond better but that is still a mess. works fine with non-gmail emails.

is it time to switch to yahoo? anyone having any luck?

I'm having the same problems. Very frustrating. I reported the problem with Google and they said they know about it and that their "engineers are diligently working" on the issue.

No ETA though.

I'm thinking about switching to my dot mac email. I need better reliability since I use my iPhone/email a ton for my business.

One question: Why can't I see my sent messages on my iPhone when I send the message from my MacBook Pro?

If I can fix this issue, I'll switch from Gmail.

I'm having the exact same issue. I agree with everyone here, it's definitely a Gmail issue. I've changed no settings on my MacBook Pro or my iPhone but am experiencing this. I submitted the issue to Google via their tech support e-mail form (so far I've only received a canned response back).

I'm using Google Apps for my e-mail. My wife's account, so far, is not exhibiting this issue. Hopefully it's resolved soon. Very frustrating.

Here is my temporary work around for this issue. Create a new gmail account. Set up forwarding in gmail settings in each of the two accounts, new account to old account, and old account to new account. Install the new gmail account in your iphone as usual. You can delete or simply turn off your original gmail account in iphone settings for now, but this is not required for this to work, I just did it to keep from getting multiple emails. You will now get all the emails on your iphone, without any emails left behind, or at least this worked for me, hope it works for you. This work around is based on the fact, in my case at least, that this problem only happens in ONE of my gmail accounts, and not the others. I don't know why that is.

So far so good, mine is still working fine since about Feb 3

By the way, since 1.1.3 I had a couple of other minor problems like the iPhone not going to sleep under certain apps like Maps. I performed a reset Settings-General-Reset-Reset All Settings and all those problems vanished. I don't recall if I did this before or after IMAP started working again but it's worth a try.
