Mac suddenly stopped burning IDVD to the DVD

For a long time, I've successfully created DVD's using IMovie. I burned onto DVD's using the Share tab on IMOVIE. This opens IDVD and then I go through a process which prompts the DVD to be burned. Suddenly, when it's done, It SAYS "burning is complete" but several of the things that happen when it's working right do not happen, for one it is not ejecting the DVD upon completion, nor is there anything on the DVD. I restarted the computer and am using a new DVD, tossed out the old (empty) DVD. What could be causing this? Thank you if you can help! Jlewis0001

I've had the benefit of reading the entire thread. Thanks to the sound diagnostic approach of F Shippey, you have developed some relevant information. Here's my comment, FWIW.

You have determined that the problem occurs before the burner comes into play, so the burner is not the problem. The problem replicates with a different project that you have been able to burn before, so your problem is probably not content related. You have tried to create a disc image, but it won't validate and you can't make one.

The problem, then, is that your iDVD is not working properly. I would do some basic maintenance, and if that doesn't work, do a reinstall of iDVD.

1. Close down your iLife programs and trash the file com.apple.iDVD.plist found in User/Library/Preferences. iDVD will create a new .plist file on relaunch.

2. Do a permissions repair using the Utilities/Disk Utility app on your Mac. You should do this after every upgrade or program installation.

3. Make sure that you have sufficient free disk space for iDVD to operate. 5GB is the minimum to burn a disk, but 15GB to 25GB is better.

4. If you have any 3rd party plug-ins, remove them to a different folder to temporaily disable them.

5. Upgrade all your iLife programs to current versions.

6. If you are having problems with programs in addition to iDVD, then run a disk repair program like Disk Warrior.

If none of the above cures the problem, then I would suggest a reinstall of iDVD.
