Stolen iPod..serial number retrieval?

Hey guys.

I got my iPod touch stolen about a month ago. I know when I bought it I registered it under my AppleID/email address. Since then, I've bought a new iPod touch..but I still want my old one back..that's $300 I don't have to just throw away.

Friends have told me of an iPod that could very well be mine that belongs to this kid. But before I confront the person, I need to get my old serial number to prove that it is in fact, my stolen iPod.

How can I get my old serial number to prove that it's my iPod?

Help please?!

Thanks a bunch in advance.

We all know they can pull up the sn from the data base, but I would certainly hope they wouldn't just give it out to someone on the other end of the phone. They have no way to know who they are talking to. That's why you call the police and file a report. You tell them it is registered and then Apple Security can give the sn to the police.

Recently I had the exact same problem you did, lost iPod and little or should I say no help from Apple. Imagine a computer company that asks you to register your product, but the "can't retreive it from the database." No wonder Apple computers are practically non existant....
Anyway, you CAN get the serial number as I did. Have your local police department call Apple Corporate Security. They will verify the police officer and Police Department, and then give you the serial number.

Grow up! Don't lose the iPod in the first place.
Typical of some people on here, they are at fault but them moan because Apple don't do everything for them.

It is YOUR responsibility to keep records of YOUR purcahses NOT Apple's.

Where is your box or receipt, both of which have the serial number on them?

Just because you are yo lazy or careless to look after these things, don't then expect someone else to be any better.

YOU are the owner of the iPod and YOU should make sure you have the information about it and not hope to rely on someone else.

Report it to the Police as being stolen and also contact Apple as well. They'll be able to coordinate between the two to recover your stolen iPod. Apple keeps all registered iPods, identified by the serial numbers/apple account/personal identity.

I remember hearing of an incident where an iPod was stolen and the police were able to track the iPod to the thief's residence. Apparently, Apple can also track the iPod as well.
