I have my ATV connected to my IMAC via ethernet. I use a Harmony 880 to control turning on and off the ATV. Most times when I turn on the ATV, it turns on fine. About every 5-10 times, though, it seems to be frozen at the picture of the Apple logo at the center of the screen. I am forced to unplug and replug and it then loads fine. Anyone else have this problem or have a solution? Thank you.
Add another; my Apple TV 160Gig is connected to an ExtremeMac HDMI switcher (bought at Apple store) and freezes on the Apple logo when unused for 2-3 days requiring a restart. Haven't tried the tip to leave the unit on a low level menu; this could be a temporary fix, but this is obviously a widespread issue since I assume only a small % of users actually complain on these forums.
Add add another. I actually started a whole new thread on this a few days ago, and more have chimed in over there. It does appear the common factor here is using HDMI switching, and mine is connected directly to my Yamaha receiver (one of two ports).
I really wish someone from Apple would acknowledge this problem and get it fixed ....
+ moi 2. Same problem. I have a direct HDMI connect between atv nd HDTV. I cannot remember if this problem occurred when I had component connections. Like others, I generally turn the atv off (via harmoney handheld). Will try leaving atv in 'light on' position and use lower menus.
Almost the same all around for me (I also posted under "Apple TV locking up").
There is one difference: My HDMI switching was working fine for several months. The problem started
after the latest software update (3/15) was auto installed to ATV (which added the capability to preview, buy and download music and movies). The software update first came into iMac (which stated it was specifically for Airport)... later, when I turned on the receiver and switched to the ATV the previously mentioned SW update occurred.
I definitely experienced the switching "freeze" under 1.1, too, although it is much more frequent and repeatable under 2.0. I suppose it is possible it got worse under 2.0 and is affecting a large cross-section of switching H/W (hence people) than before.
As a side note, the workaround mentioned above of leaving the AppleTV in a submenu (e.g., in MyPhotos) instead of at the top seems to be helping in my case. I haven't had a freeze in a few days.
Add me to the list, but I'm not expecting that Apple will actually do anything to fix it anytime soon. They'll be concentrating on their other products as they get refreshed or the iPhone SDK.
I am running into the same problem. Apple logo if it's not used in a few days. I still hear remote clicks, but I have to restart to get it with the remote to get it to work again.
HDMI to an Onkyo receiver. I submitted feedback to Apple, I thought it was a bad unit until I read these posts.
I have not had any more freezes since I started leaving my ATV showing synced photos last week. I can also put the ATV in sleep mode for a couple of days, and it still successfully comes up. And the ATV still shows in iTunes even when in sleep mode. Not a fix but at least appears to be a workaround.
I last used my apple tv about 2 wks ago. I went and tried to use it last night and I got the Apple logo - I wasn't able to get to any of my data. The furthest I could get was different screens three choices, restart, dignostics, or factory restore. I tried all, and I keep coming back to the apple logo (restarting) and then those choices again. I powered off (unplugged the unit) and restarted it - same thing. I can't get any farther than that.
