I agree, ProClip are the best mount for iPhone, iPod or any other device for your vehicle. I looked everywhere for a longtime to find a really professional mount.

ProClip come in two parts. Specific ProClip Vehicle Mount designed for each vehicle brand and model. Various different mounts for various locations on the console or dashboard.

Then you purchase the specificly designed holder for your device (iPhone, iPod etc). I have two in my BMW, one for my Treo 650 (I still need my Treo for Corporate e-mail until iPhone 2.0 is released in June)and one for my iPhone.

I highly recommend ProClip as a professional solution. Here is the link http://www.proclipusa.com/home/home.aspx

In UK marketed by Brodit for Europe. They do both LH and RH drive vehicle mounts http://www.dsldevelopments.com/

I bought this one back in December when it was 50p cheaper (£3 inc P&P) It came as a window suction mount but also had the option to remove the arm and clip in 2 spring loaded vent clips which I wasn't aware of at the time of buying. I have had this iPhone holder mounted on the middle vent nearest the steering wheel in my Ford Focus for a while now and there is no faults whatso ever! It was a bargin! and will also fit other devices.

Haven't seen any proper iPhone car holders/docks yet, but am looking forward for a half decent one to be launched. Nokia do proper cradles for their phones so it makes sence to assume that Apple should launch something similar sometime.

I'm still waiting for the pass-through connector mount.

Proclip has been trying for months to get Apple's approval for a mount with a pass-through dock connector to use with the iPods and iPhone. They even had it on display at Macworld. Apple approved DICE's pass-through connector, but is dragging their feet on ProClip's.

When using your iphone in the car (such as in a holder or sitting on the dash or upholder) Will bouncing/vibrations in the car cause any internal damage to the iphone?

Also, can light/sun cause damage to the iphone screen?

I doubt there'd be a vibration issue since the iPhone doesn't have any moving parts. I don't know about the sun/light damage though I think direct sun would be a concern for heat damage.

Shame on me! I go tanning and my poor defenseless iPhone goes with me. Of course this is for a short period of time (10 minutes max), but so far so good. It is warm, but no where as warm as it can get when charging.

You do give it a good SPF 50 protection though, right? 😉 Seriously, I was thinking more of a long summer drive in a convertible, or left (inadvertently) in a locked vehicle on a very hot day.

Bad news from ProClip: They've suspended indefinitely development on the pass-through connector for iPod & iPhone device mounts. This is what they sent me: "At this time, we are putting the pass-through holders on an indefinite hold. We are not getting anywhere with Apple's licensing process. We apologize for the inconvenience."

So, I'll probably get the mount for Video iPods from Dice Electronics.
