iPhone and expanded caller id functions?

I noticed that the caller id on my land line phone ( Uniden: http://www.uniden.com/products/productdetail.cfm?product=DCT5280 ) 90% of the time actually displays the first and last name of the person or business that's calling me. The other 10% of the calls it tells me if the number calling me is land based or a cell phone and the city they are calling from. Mind you I have no numbers / names actually saved on the phone itself. This seems way more advanced than any caller id I have ever seen on a cell phone! And this function is very useful!

My questions are: Do cell companies just not support these caller id functions or is there a way for me to add this functionality to my iPhone? Is this something AT&T charges extra for and if so, does the iPhone support it?

Thanks!

iPhone 8gig, Mac OS X (10.5.1), AT&T

-The_Dude-,

Caller ID information is provided by the caller's phone carrier, landline or cell.

I have noticed that if I go into recent calls, and look at the details on the recent calls it will show the city/state that number should be for. It appears to be based on area code/prefix. However, with number portability it is not unheard of for that to be incorrect. For example if somebody moves from L.A. to Denver, and gets their number ported to their cell phone.

Hope this helps,

Nathan C.
