I have a problem. Perhaps someone else is in the same boat and can advise. I purchased a new IMac with pre installed software. (final cut express). My receipt clearly shows the software was purchased and pre installed. Hard Disk problems led to Apple replace my hard disk but not load the pre installed software. They have been very helpful in correcting the HD problem. I purchased Apple Protection Plan on the computer. They have stated that they always ship a CD of the software with the computer and it is up to me to load the software with the CD that they shipped. They also stated that it was up to me to tell them if I didn't receive the CD. I am just about positive that I never received a CD of Final Cut with the computer. I purchased it preloaded and was not even aware that I was suppose to receive a hard copy on a CD. Now I have my computer back and working again but I am without the preloaded Final Cut. Their position is that I will have to repurchase the software. Seems odd to me. I have purchased a lot of software online without ever receiving a hard copy. Has anyone ever had to deal with Apple on a similar situation? If so how did you recover your preloaded software? Thanks

Thanks Miriam,
I did that and the answers I quoted in my question are from Apple Customer relations. As I stated in my questions their response was that I would have to re purchase the software all over again.

I suggest you call them back and ask to be escalated. Offer to fax them a copy of the receipt with FCE itemized on it. Write to Apple at Apple,Inc. 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, CA 95014 enclosing all your documentation.
Thanks again,
your response is appreciated very much. I had emailed them copies of my receipt and they acknowledged it was purchased by me as a preloaded option. My IMac was the only computer of mine which had this software on it. It is also my only computer which did not run (and still doesn't) run Leopard. It is a 1.8 GHZ, 20 " G5 model running System 10.3.9. When I asked if I were to upgrade my IMac to Leopard and purchase the upgrade version of Final Cut, Apple said since I do not have the original version installed I would not be able to use the upgrade path and would now have to purchase Final Cut as a new program.
Perhaps I have been speaking to the wrong Apple rep. and will try again. thanks again
