finding lost icon dragged from dock to desktop

The icons in your dock are merely shortcuts to Applications. Your dock is modifiable, and thus you can bring new shortcuts to Applications into it by dragging icons in and out.

In order to put your Microsoft Word icon back into your dock, follow these directions:

1. On your desktop, there will be an icon titled "Macintosh HD". Double-Click on this.
2. Double-click on the "Applications" folder.
3. Somewhere in this window, you should see a folder entitled "Microsoft Office 2004". Open this folder.
4. Locate the "Microsoft Word" icon, and drag it to your preferred location in the dock.

I accidentaly deleted the 'quick access' to Apple icon in the dock which was located next to the trash bin. (It's the one with the @ icon atop a spring). Any ideas how to get it back?

You will have to go to the web site and drag the address/url to the Dock !!!!

Joanne - Brian's description is completely accurate.

However, it seems to me you were able to locate the Microsoft Word application in your Applications folder, yet double-clicking it did not launch Word. Is that correct? If so, you have another problem.

First, I'd make sure the Word application is residing in the Applications folder this way:

User/Applications/Microsoft Office X/Microsoft Word

I've seen other posts where some apps need to be in certain places to work properly.
