Battery and Heat

So I've been having a problem with my battery due to an excessive amount of heat coming from my MBP.

Basically this has come up rather suddenly over the past few weeks. My notebook has gotten unusually hot when running one program as basic as Microsoft Word. Now, I keep it clean, keep it ventilated, and have tried it on virtually every surface. It gets hot without fail. Now, what would normally happen is it would get really hot when streaming videos or editing or basically something that's actually taxing on this machine's memory. That would reduce the battery life, but now that the heat is up there all the time, my max battery life is less than two hours.

I checked the stats on my battery in system profiler and it's in good health. I took it to an Apple store (although i will go back because the dude was kind of rude to me) and this guy did a stress test on it and told me to calibrate it.

I've had my mac since summer 2007 and since the dude told me, I've calibrated it at least 5 or 6 times. Not. One. Difference.

I figure if the battery heath is good, at least according to the stats, then there must be a minor heat problem or something. The stress test passed and the dude told me macs get hot, but I KNOW that this is not normal behavior. Opinions?

Are we talking degrees Celsius? Here are some of mine for comparison:

CPU A=46℃
GPU Diode=54℃
GPU Heatsink=46℃
Heatsink A=47℃
Heatsink B=39℃
Enclosure Bottom=25℃
Memory Control=40℃
Airport Card=51℃
Left Fan=2000 RPM
Right Fan=1999 RPM

And at the far left on mine, CPU shows to be 95% idle. This is with 4 applications open--Mail, Safari, Activity Monitor, and Console. I am connected to the internet by, of all things, wireless dial up.

If your CPU is at 90℃, then it is nearly twice as hot as mine is. I hope a few other people will post their stats, but my feeling is that yours is much higher than it should be. How much of your CPU is idle?

I've had this problem as well. Every day it seems to be getting worse, it's to the point that I can't operate how I normally would on my MBP. I need to watch what I open and monitor my CPU or my computer will shut itself down. The shut downs started happening in the fall but I didn't think much of it. I did get my keyboard replaced but I don't think that would have much to do with it and I'm not even sure if they both happened at the same time. I am thinking I need to take it in and have them look inside to see if there is a problem with the thermal paste like I've been hearing so much about.I use iStat Pro and get some really hot temps and my cpu never seems to burdened but varies alotjumping between 80's and 90's but more often is around 95.Some of the worst temps I've seen from iStat were as follows:

CPU A= 87C
Enclosure Bottom= 48C
Fan Speed is generally 1000 RPM for both but it has gone up occasionsally to 2000

The others I haven't paid attention to much attention to. I have never witnessed what temp the system shuts down at, I'm guessing at 90.

I desperately would like this problem to be fixed. It's embarrassing to have a mac that doesn't work properly, and that shuts down with no warning.

Hey KillerTofu88,

I have had the exact same problem. Like you I had the battery changed but it didn't solve the heat and battery life problem. However, surprisingly, just before having my battery changed my computer started to run as it should run, i.e. with low temperature when low CPU usage. Indeed I even had usual battery life (3h to 4h when full). This occurred without anything done to the machine. Then when I got my new battery, after one week using it, it started again to have high temp and low battery life. It's so ****** up!!! I'm on my way to the Apple Store, did they figure out what was the problem with your machine? As the link posted on this thread I really think it's about the thermal paste. So I guess we should just get it fixed, just don't wanna leave my MBP for too long (I need it for work)!

If anyone has any new info on that please let me know.

Ok I've been reading this thread trying to figure out the same issue with my computer. In the last two weeks it has slowly been getting hotter and the battery dies quicker. I downloaded iStatpro and these are my stats:

CPU A=77℃
GPU Diode=75℃
GPU Heatsink=67℃
Heatsink A=62℃
Heatsink B=46℃
Enclosure Bottom=43℃
Memory Control=43℃
Airport Card=44℃
Left Fan=4122 RPM
Right Fan=4200 RPM

Health: 90%
Cycles: 126
Charge: 70%
Time: 1:05m
CPU
Idle: 43%
User:50%

My cpu box in activity monitor wasnt missing a single green square up top.
my only open programs are internet explorer and activity monitor.
what can i do?
