Outlook won't shut down properly

Hi Roy, that solved the playback issues but my other problem is still here...

Since upgrading to iTunes 7.6 is that Microsoft Outlook 2003 won't shutdown properly. Regardless of whether I click on the close program icon of choose File|Exit the interface closes but Outlook continues running in the background and the user interface is unresponsive... I have to open the task manager and use End Process to close Outlook.

I verified iTunes 7.6 and/or QuickTime is the cause by uninstalling iTunes, QuickTime, the bonjor service, etc. and then rebooting, launching Outlook and then exiting Outlook. With iTunes, QuickTime, etc. removed Outlook closes properly. Once I reinstalled iTunes 7.6 the problem returned.

Yeah, when I hit the close program button and do a File|Exit the Outlook window closes but Outlook icon remains in the system tray and the program continues running in the background but when I double-click the icon in the system tray or right-click on it and select "Open Outlook" to read mail or check my calendar etc. it won't open I have to open the task manager and kill the process and then restart Outlook.

Yes. I'm pretty sure the problem is in calendar and contacts syncing routine... I've seen this sort of thing happen after syncing Outlook with a windows mobile device. If you don't disconnect the device before closing Outlook, Outlook behaves exactly as I described previously.

FWIW I don't sync calendar and contact data with my iPod so I've even looked at those options and it happens whether or not my iPod is connected.

I had the same problem. Outlook 2003 and iTunes installed. When I exited Outlook, the process kept running. In a day, I could get half a dozen Outlook process running.

Finally found the answer in another forum. I killed all running Outlook processes, then started Outlook and clicked Tools -> Options. Then I clicked on the Other tab and clicked the COM Add-ins button. I cleared the checkmark from the iTunes add-in, then clicked the OK buttons to get out. I exited Outlook, and... the Outlook process closed just fine!

Anyway, maybe this will work for you, or perhaps it's one of the other add-ins.

Callsign Razor: Can you confirm that the issue is still occurring in iTunes 7.6.2 and also tell me which version of Apple Mobile Device Support you are running?

I'm curious to see what element would be affecting Outlook at all. If Apple Mobile Device Support is uninstalled, there's no element created by Apple that touches Outlook.
