patch for guitar hero?

i went to an apple store a couple of days ago and asked specifically for a mac that would run guitar hero. i guess because my other needs were pretty basic, i was suggested a base line macbook, which i have since discovered does NOT run guitar hero. is there any kind of patch in the works to make gh run on this thing? i dont see the logic in only having gh accessible on computers marketed for professionals. thanks!

Hi Audrey,

The game "Guitar Hero" requires a machine with a dedicated graphics processor, not a shared graphics processor (found on the MacBook). The iMac family of desktop computers comes with a dedicated graphics card and is not targeted at professionals, it's just that the MacBook is not targeted at "gamers."

Due to the graphical nature of Guitar Hero, it's fairly demanding of a CPU and thus unsupportive of the hardware on the MacBook. I'm also unsure, if a simple "patch" would certainly scale down the nature of the application.

I find it really odd at the insane requirements for Guitar Hero for the Mac. Even the game running on the Playstation 2 still could be a possible port without all the fancy bloom effects used in the 360 and PS3 versions.

The Intel GMA3100 does offer "unified shader" support and given the right kick in the rear, can put out some quality graphics. It's too bad however that it's still slowed up by shared system memory on the MacBook. (Oddly something that isn't an issue with the Ati "Xenos" used in the Xbox 360 since the entire console uses a shared memory architecture.
