Tiger Upgrade - POP email - Mac Mail client

The Tiger upgrade 'readme' indicates something to the effect that email in my current mail client (from a POP server and stored locally on my Mac) will not be accessible once I upgrade to Tiger? (running 10.2.8 currently)

Can anyone provide me with any guidance here? Is there a way to export existing mail messages and then import once I upgrade? Am I misunderstaning the text in the 'readme'?

Thanks.

Laura, First Welcome to the Discussions.
I do not have Tiger.
But as a rule whenever you upgrade to the newer Operating System you loose all your previous settings as well as anything else that was on your other Operating System.
If you do an Archive Install it will save all your old systems programs and settings.
That being said. I find that even though it is always better to copy your address book and anything you want to keep JUST IN CASE,
Then after you do the upgrade I find it easier to Create a New Mail Account.
This seems to work best for me.. be sure you write down all of your present settings before you upgrade, they have to be right or they will not work..Don
