Did you check your sound input through system preferences. I had similar problem in PB. Found my input device was not assigned to my built in speakers. Go to system preferences - sound - input - double check your built in speaker is assigned.

Tonight when playing a photo booth captured movie via quicktime player I noticed two things:

1) the movie had not been flipped (as the photos did).
2) there was no sound.

After unchecking Photo Booth > Edit > Auto Flip New Photos, I was able to record a 5 minute movie with sound no problems.

Upon rechecking Photo Booth > Edit > Auto Flip New Photos and rerecording a movie, the problem didn't arise again. Hopefully it's a lasting fix.

Still not sure why movies aren't flipped though.
iMovie will fix that though.

Good luck!

Hi,

iChat does flip the Video as a Matter of course for you to View yourself as you would in front of a mirror.

Photo Booth does not.

However at Leopard and Below you may want to try iGlasses that can flip the Video in many apps (amongst other things).

It does not work in Photo Booth on Snow Leopard yet http://www.ecamm.com/snowleopard/

Same problem here, MacBook Pro, built-in mic. Intermittent - recorded four videos in a row, only two of them had sound. Quicktime Player reports (under "Show Movie Properties") that there is indeed a soundtrack, it's just that it is 0.00 seconds in duration.

Yes, I agree, we're only asking Photo Booth to do one of it's basic functions, to just record a video with sound. Flicking the mic is interesting... I wonder if the input needs to be "woken up", as if perhaps there was an automatic limiter in the circuit that is behaving funny. (Just a guess, I'm not an engineer). I hope Apple can fix this soon.

Hey Everyone. I hope im not too late.
I had the same problem and i tried everything. I recorded a video and there was no sound on photobooth.

I did however come up with a good solution.
I downloaded this program called "FLV CRUNCH" which is a video converter.

I dragged my file in to convert and i set the format to 'mpg.(mepg 1)
and pressed start.
It changed the format of my video and is now working just fine.

VLC works aswell but you cant actually use the video for editing purposes meanwhile if you do convert it you can use it on iMovie.

I hope this helps.

Hello! I had just recorded a video I'd really liked, and when I played it back, there was no audio. Your post helped me a lot! I downloaded VLC, and I opened the video in that program, and the audio worked!

However, I'm not exactly sure how to get it onto the Internet. I'd like to post this 15-minute video to a blog, so a URL to it if I could somehow upload it would be great... I'm not sure. That's why I'm asking you; how can I upload it to the Internet, and keep its audio?

I realized I had the same problem today, luckily I checked the Safari update and downloaded the latest Garage Band update this includes some of the audio feature. After download completed, restarted garage band then closed application, opened Photo booth and tested the video mode after playback it WORKED I finally have sound!

Thanks for sharing your solution, WLL!

Your experience shows the importance of keeping software updated. Your suggestion is certainly worth consideration by all who are still having trouble.

Kudos,
