Internet Radio on Apple TV...

...there is one feature I still miss on atv with the new software update to come which are the internet radio stations you can listen to on iTunes.

It would be great if they also made this available dircetly on the atv, which is connected to my home audio system, so I can listen to internet radio without turning on my computer.

Eseverence,

With the new ATV, you will be able to treat your ATV as an Airtunes device... which means you can stream iTunes content including internet radio from your Mac to your Airtunes wirelessly. In essence, the ATV is acting like an Airport Express.

Not the same as stand-alone support of Internet Radio. Maybe in the future??

There is no revenue in free podcasts either, yet Apple TV will have great support for streaming and downloading podcasts. (I actually bought the Apple TV for viewing TED.com podcasts).

If enough people send in a request to Apple to support itunes radio, I think they'll probably do something with it in a future update.

This is why Apple TV is great. You pay for it once, then Apple sends you free updates with new fancy capabilities. It still has a LOT of potential, and with the new update on the way, things are looking very bright indeed.

There is a way to listen to the Apple supported web radio stations on your Version 2 Apple TV.
Unfortunately you have to select and play the radio station using iTunes on your computer. At the bottom right of the window is a button with a speaker symbol that says "computer". Click that and you will see an option for Apple TV. Select that, and your audio will be re-directed to the Apple TV. There will be no sound from your computer.

Incidentally, you can also use this option to send iTunes audio playlists to the Apple TV

Fletsch,

Agreed: No stand-alone support for internet radio in ATV.
Agreed: You can access iTunes playlists etc from ATV via "source" command.

Disagree: When you access iTunes playlists via Source, any internet radio stations in a playlist will NOT show up. I've tried that. If you know a secret, I'd love to know. But I specifically tried it and it didn't work.

WIth the new AppleTV Take 2 release today, you should be able to stream an internet radio station from your Mac to ATV via AirTunes. But it's a "push" to the ATV, not a "pull" from the ATV menus.

I have it working right now. Just add a radio station to a playlist in iTunes and it will be synced to Apple TV as if it were a song. Then just play that "song" from the Apple TV interface. No need to stream it from a computer running iTunes.

To help me navigate to them easier, I set the genre of my radio stations to "Internet Radio", then I can drill into them through the Genres on the Apple TV

Steve,

I have done that but still cannot get AppleTV to recognize the station as a song. In particular, I am trying to access a station that offers sized streams in several formats. From iTunes I dragged the link to a playlist I created and synced. The playlist appeared in AppleTV but when I tried to open that playlist I got a message saying that no song was found. Any suggestions?

Thanks
