...there is one feature I still miss on atv with the new software update to come which are the internet radio stations you can listen to on iTunes.
It would be great if they also made this available dircetly on the atv, which is connected to my home audio system, so I can listen to internet radio without turning on my computer.
Same thing happened to me. I synced a playlist with radio stations and got the atv to play them in the first session. Now they don't. My guess is that we found a workaround that the developers didn't anticipate. And, as with any workaround, it's unreliable. If we want atv to support radio, we'll just have to campaign for official support and hope the Apple folks listen and agree.
i thought i was crazy as i got it to work when i first read here how to get it done. then when i couldn't get it to work again, i was scratching my head. misery loves company, i suppose...
apple, get to it. make this work more than once. there seem to be a few strange bugs with this release.
Marc, I think I did this. I had Virgin radio streaming on my PC/iTunes. Created a playlist called radio and drug the Virgin Radio feed into the playlist. Stopped the feed on my PC (bandwidth is limited here in Shanghai, China). I sync'd to aTV, the playlist was there as was Virgin Radio. I attempted to play Virgin radio and the screen came up like it was going to play but nothing happened... No music. Waited maybe 5+ minutes then gave up. Went back to the PC and tried it there again... No problem.
I wonder if it's a WiFi bandwidth thing... PC is wired, aTV is WiFi...
For the most part, aTV is working ok in a bandwidth-challenged environment... I also get the dropping from the device list like others do... Takes a variety of things to wake things up again...
Downloaded the 7.6.1 iTunes update and installed it. Still no luck on Radio Playlists. To summarize, here's what I have done:
Created playlist "Radio Stations" in iTunes
Added several internet radio stations from the Itunes Radio list
Made sure all were checked (for sync), also played 'em all in iTunes
Synced to ATV
Went to ATV Playlists: sure enough, "Radio Stations" is listed
Clicked on the "Radio Stations" playlist: message: "There are no songs in this playlist"
iTunes was active on my Mac at the same time.
Has anybody tried syncing an Radio Playlist with "show only the synced items on my Apple TV" unchecked. I checked this box a while ago. Maybe that's what changed?
After I updated to the latest iTunes, and synced the ATV, the Radio stations in the Radio playlist are now gone. I had to delete the contents of the playlist and then add them again and then sync. Then they returned.
This may be a clue to internet radio it worked for me
Had internet radio (FolkAlley.com) plus other stations the first day of my Appletv
I unplug Appletv every night. Next day no internet radio ((FolkAlley.com) plus other stations) change from manual sync to sync all. No Radio
Bummed out! Started new playlist radio, synced all, nothing really bummed out!! Tried everything.
Hint one. (Maybe)
But today went to my itune playlist, added new Radio playlist put in (FolkAlley.com) plus other stations went to AppleTV, even-though I sync all now noticed manual sync New Radio playlist was not checked so I put it on manual, checked Radio playlist put it back to sync all then I synced got all stations but FolkAlley.
The real hint! (probably)
Went to radio playlist in iTunes clicked on folkalley got info summary looked at others that synced over and compared. FolkAlley showed a sample rate but others did not plus FolkAlley was not listed as a Playlist URL kind nor a stream in the kind column. Dumped FolkAlley and went to their 56k version never playing it on this computer. Info in iTunes for this 56k Folkalley matched other summary info. Synced AppleTV got FolkAlly!! Most happy!!!
"The ATV is for buying music and movies, not listening to free radio. There is no revenue in free radio."
Actually, Polk has a new HD radio that is said to digitally "tag" songs for shopping cart purchases on an iTunes-connected computer. Apple should have this feature on Apple TV for Internet HD Radio stations.
I went back and deleted my Streaming Radio playlist. Created a new one and then dragged and dropped in the stations I used to have back in there (i tried this before and it didn't work, however this time-. I re-synced it with ATV. Works now. Only thing I can figure out is that the position or file name of the stream is being changed on the other end and that is causing it not to show up in the playlist for everyone. Like if you were to move or change the name of a file on your HD the playlist would show it as a missing file. It's the only thing I can come up with. APPLE just go ahead and add this feature to ATV already!
NURSE RATCHET CAN I PLEASE HAVE MY STREAMING RADIO!
I did the same. I deleted all the the internet radio stations that I had in my Radio Playlist. Re-entered them including one new one. Now it seems to work. Good. We'll see if it still works tomorrow. ha. Thanks all for the suggestions.
Remove radio station from main music library and the playlist that you sync to AppleTV go to radio main library and drag station to Playlist you are syncing to Apple TV do not play stations on the computer.
