Recognised problem - bright corners?

Hi everyone
My MacBook is 18 months old. I've thought recently that the screen is becoming progressively dimmer. Now I am quite sure that the bottom corners are definitely brighter than the rest of the display - it's almost like two little flashlights shining diagonally onto the screen.

Am I imagining this? Aternatively, is this a recognised problem I should take to Apple?

many thanks
Grant

I'm afraid I'm not much help, but I did notice this same thing just yesterday. First I've seen of it. Macbook is about 9 months old. Came home yesterday - I'd left the macbook closed and sleeping and I found it turned off. It didn't boot up immediately. When it did, the screen was dim, especially toward the bottom, except for the two flashlights shining up from the bottom corners, like you describe. But when I rebooted again, it seemed fine. Since then, it's booted up fine two more times, then done the flashlight thing again once. Wondering if I need to take it in or wait and see for a bit...

This is normal.

The MacBook display is a Cold Cathode Lamp display. CCL displays gradually grow dimmer over time. I have a PowerBook G4 that's 3 years old and I see the same "flashlights" in the lower corners. Usually this effect goes away once the display has a few minutes to warm up. (CCL lamps take a bit to reach peak brightness, unlike LEDs, which emit 100% of their max light immediately.)
