Aperture 2.0 (YES!) Education Pricing

So I'm downloading the trial now!!! But I want to clarify:

Aperture 1.5 Academic users aren't eligible for the upgrade, right? And we must pay $179 or $199. Apple what happened?

Is that true? It seems that it worth Academic users getting the full version!

I just called Apple, because the upgrade policy on the web site was unclear. It just specified that you need a 1.5 serial number. The rep said that its the typical Apple deal, no academic upgrade incentive is offered. Hopefully they will clarify that on the web site soon so people don't get stuck with a dead upgrade package.

On a related note, it sure would be nice if Apple offered a Pro User or cross-grade incentive for those of us who own retail versions of other Pro Apps such as Final Cut Studio and Logic Studio.

Even Adobe offers an upgrade path from both educational and cross grade software. Apple, are you reading this?

as a followup to my post yesterday (i did say i'd tell ya what i found out)

i bought the academic version of Aperture when it came out (1.0 version) - yesterday i bought the non-academic upgrade serial number - i found out for sure that the upgrade won't work when i tried to enter the new serial (which i figured would happen after reading all these posts).

i'm off to call Apple...

anyone want an upgrade serial number cheap? 🙂

I'm pretty dissapointed. I purchased Apeture 1.5 Education last week over the web site. I received it February 4th and used it. Paid the $149 to find out 2.0 is out this week and there's nothing I can do about it. I would have paid the $199 if I had known. I wish their customer support could do something about it. It was just last week! When I called them they said there was nothing they could do and that I was essentially stuck.

I called apple and there is NO academic upgrade. Academic 1.0 is not upgradeable. You can buy a new academic version 2,0 for $179, $20 off the full price. The "Apple" person suggested I buy a full version so I won't be in the position of not being able to upgrade next time.
Oh, but if you recently bought 1.5, the upgrade is only $9.95 for you, those of us who spent $250 for 1.0 will have to pay $179 - 199. The truth is not pleasant, the answer may be LR.

From what I've read, Adobe will treat you the same way. Don't know if it is true as i haven't experienced it myself, but it could be.

I'll tell ya, i've just upgraded my library to 2.0 (paying the full price since i had an academic version before)... and my library is 150gb in size with hundreds of projects and who knows how many images (i'm sure it tells me somewhere, but i'm too lazy to look it up right now)...

and Aperture 2.0 is blazing fast!

finally

i can use this like it is meant to be used!

searches on the entire library take less than 5 seconds! This is as it should be

if i were you, the $ spent on 2.0 would be well worth the amount of time it would take you to convert over to LR.

but that's just me
