TM Fails on remote AFP share

Hi!

I'm running netatalk on an Ubuntu server that I have. I'm able to connect to it through finder and read/write files to it. However, when I'm trying the time machine, I can see the sparse image get created on my ubuntu server. But after awhile, TM fails and the sparse disk image is removed from the server. I found that in my system.log, there are a few entries relating to my issue. I've tried to do a search on this, but couldn't find any solutions. Just wondering if anybody has any ideas...

Your a smart guy David. I've been playing with this problem trying to find a solution, pretty simple fix once you find it.

Some others are posting problems getting this working, there are other hidden files and the like that are created when you choose a network disk so simply placing this sparse bundle on your network drive is not enough to back up there.

1. Without the bundle select network drive you would like to use, this should create a small hidden file. So ensure you have write to the share root and can create these hidden files. On my system it's called.
e.g. .0011248589be
When i first set this up i had to create this file manually. Back in the 10.5.0/1 days.
2. Try and make the backup and let if fail.
3. Follow david's instructions and create the proper sparse bundle with the proper name. Place it on your network drive and try again. Again on mine it's the following.
e.g. hillbilly1980-laptopg4_0011248589be.sparsebundle
