macbook won't boot with 4gb

Hi all. I just got my new (and first) macbook a couple weeks ago with the standard 1gb memory. I just got my new crucial 4gb in the mail today and installed it. All I get with the 4gb is a blank screen and a solid on sleep light. It runs fine with original 1 gb, one new 2gb in slot 0 + one 512 in slot 1, and one 512 in slot 0 + one 2gb in slot 1, and any configuration except 4gb. Anyone have this problem or know of something else I could try? Don't think it's the memory itself as they both work, just not together. I could be wrong.

It solved my problem. I upgraded the RAM on my new iMac to 4GB and the stock 2GB I transferred to my first generation MacBook with a 2GB capacity. I did this a few weeks ago and all was well. Last night I went to boot up the MacBook and nothing happened except for the deep sleep or solid white light showing, no screen responce, no hard drive spin absolute silence! After panicing I checked this forum and decided to remove and then reseat the two sticks of RAM. It appears that I did not push them in far enough and they had worked loose. I gave them a hard push and could here a gentle click and I was back in business. I underestimate how much force you need to actually make the RAM attach.

Briefy answer - Make sure you push the RAM in as far as possible, you have to push real hard!!!!

In case anyone else still has issues like this here's the rundown. As I previously mentioned, apple told me to have ram slots tested. I brought it into the one and only mac shop near me and told them to test ram slots per apple's suggestion. The next day I stop in to pick it up as they left me a message that it was done. They did not test the ram slots as I told them to, they just told me that my aftermarket ram was at fault and told me to pay $50 since it was not an apple problem. And the guy fought with me about "no macbook can handle 4gb ram. 2gb is the absolute max". He finally looked on the web and conceded. So even though they didn't do the one and only thing I asked them to do I had to pay for their time, after a bunch of back and forth fighting over not getting the service I asked for I finally decided they weren't worth my time and gave in. (Guaranteed never to go back for anything) I couldn't even grab my macbook and run since they didn't even bring it to the front of the store until it was paid for. I called Crucial and told them that the memory doesn't work and she politely said "no problem, we'll send you some new memory right away". Within 5 minutes I had an RMA and ready to go. Today the new crucial memory came, I installed it and surprisingly enough she started right up and seems to work perfectly. Anyways, thanks again all for the replies and hopefully all goes well from here on out.
