Blu-ray support

FWIW...

We started using Encore CS3 and the latest 4X SONY Blu-ray burner in our MacPro. Works like a charm! Have tested a few discs on a PS3 and the footage looks stunning.

We would RATHER use DVDSP, but with NO info anywhere, we had no choice but to add CS3 to our arsenal.

Read this now before Apple deletes this mess....

Apple sits on the Blu-ray board, yet it doesn't support the standard in DVDSP4. This is totally on-topic in this forum, though you may find it disquieting that people persist on challenging Apple for an answer. So far, no answer has been forthcoming. Vapid press releases are meaningless.

There have been no press releases on what Apple's plans are.

People use this authoring software to make a living. Clients increasingly demand Blu-ray format disks. How long is this delay going to continue?

Play it off the computer or use another application. Again if you have to make a blu-ray disc, use the other applications. The cost of Encore or a PC and whatever runs on it will be paid off after one client.

You need to take a look at the questions David S. put forth. The answer is right there.

We are all chomping at the bit to see the next thing, but it ain't happening yet. The one thing I know for sure is that Apple is run by some real bright people. If they thought there was a practical reason to release DVD SP blu-ray at this time it would be released. Also remember Apple is very tight lippped about things, they do not talk about what is coming down in the future.

Well, it seems now that Toshiba officially making a death watch of the HD DVD format, meaning that it will be dropped later in the game. We can only hope Apple will respond in a timely manner.

How do you propose that this issue be "resolved" by the posters here?

If you want to complain, rant or whine, take it to the feedback pages at Apple, not here.

If your clients are "demanding' blu-ray™ support, then buy Encore CS3 and a burner and author away.

But try to observe the Terms of Use underwhich you gained access to these boards.

I am familiar with all the issues and who controls what. In fact some of us may have posted information regarding recent developments in the battle of formats. That, unfortunately, is not the issue ultimately at least with regards to the TOU. 😟

Although many may argue....HD DVD was alive and well just 3 weeks ago. Recent developments have changed the Home HD world dramatically. Apple was wise not to invest in BD. Many folks lost alot of money on that Warner decision ...me included.

So I guess I have to say...be patient..or find somebody who authors BD discs 🙂...or buy Encore.

Personally..I don't believe you'll see BD in DVDSP for at least another year..if at all. His Royal Highness made it very clear at Mac World, he would love to see everyone here log onto Apple's servers to see their HD material. Final Cut Studio sells regardless. Apple doesn't need a BD authoring tool or an NAB booth to sell that product...if you want to go with another editing tool be my guest. I guess what I'm trying to say is that adding BD to DVDSP isn't going to sell more Final Cut Pro boxes.

On top of all that, DVDSP would have to be redone almost from scratch to fold in BD authoring. Furthermore you won't see a BD tool from Apple allowing you to author for replication...way to many big boys charging top dollar for work right now and they're not about to let DVDSP ruin the fun..like it did for spec. level authors.

I really hope you are wrong on this one 😟 Sony's charges will be enough of a pain 🙂

But it is a bleak outlook right now.
