Hi,

i just bought a Sony HDR-SR11. Great Camcoder. From my understading, imovie 08 supports the AVCHD Format, which is probable why you got this camcoder. HOWEVER, when Imovies imports it, it looses some of the resolution. It does not support it in true HD Format. You would need to get their premium video editing software ($199) that only works with the Intel chips.

I like my camcorder, but it does not agree with imovie. So, i am looking at pinnacle ultimate for my pc... I am bit disappointed...I dropped $1,000 on a video camcorder and have to spend another $200 on a sofware...

I too cannot figure out how to download video from my Sony HDR-SR11 to my MacBook Pro. I've checked and it does not have SD, only HD. I can download sill pictures but no video. Is there a web site direct to Apple where I can ask this question? I'm getting very frustrated with this expensive laptop and camera!

Terry,
I have the same camera. I can download to the macbook pro or my iMac. No problem.
I do the following.
Camera is in dock usb connected to camera and mac
Camera is set to work with the HD drive or card depending on where the footage I want to download is.
Camera is turned on and then 4 options come up on the LCD screen. Select *USB CONNECT*
A NO NAME disk image icon comes up on the screen, if iMovie doesn't open, open it. Then iMoviie creates thumbnails, this takes several minutes, how long depends on how much video you have. Sometimes the little pop up screen telling you it's doing thumbnails gets behind the iMovie panel and it looks like nothing is happening.
There are eBooks available for both iMovie 08 and your camera. You may find them helpful.
Good luck.

I recently bought the Voltaic converting software so I could convert and edit my clips in FCP 5.0.4 and have finished my edit, but I was wondering what is the best way to export this movie and get HD quality out of the footage that I filmed on my Sony HDR SR11?

Exporting the project to .mov clearly isn't HD quality. Is there anyway to export my project in a way that will be closer to HD quality?

This is my first time to use any type of HD camera.

Thanks

Mavs2407,
I am not an expert on this stuff, but I do know that those who are will need to know what you intend to do with the export. DVD, website, Apple TV or what ever. If you do not have an HD DVD burner or a Blu-ray burner, you will need some software like Toast to create a AVCHD movie on regular DVD to play on a Blu-Ray player or PS3 to get a HD or Blu_ray output.

So after reading all that, my head hurts. I just got a HDR-SR11 and like it very much until I got to getting movie files off of it. I have been shooting in SD. So how should I go about getting those files into iMovie '08? Thumbnails are not showing up and when I drag files over from the camera's hard drive iMovie says the aren't movie files.

Any luck on keeping the 5.1 audio on your sony hdr-sr11? Also, what software have you found works best. Basically I'm looking to see how I can get the best resolution out of the camera and keep the 5.1. I'm gonna play it thru Apple TV assuming I can play HD content on it (I figure I can since HD movies can play, I know it'll only be 720p)

Thanks

Dear all,
I also do have a SONY HDR SR11 and do have some problems with the tool.
I can connect my Camera with iMovie as well as Final Cut Express. Both applications identify a camera (NO NAME) and I'm also able to see the film-files on my iMac Intel based. Once I import the films it works (takes a long time) but the final imported films in iMovie / FCE appear chopped. Very bad quality and nothing to work with.
Has anyone made the same experiences and nows how to deal with that?
Thanks for advice !

I am looking to buy a nice HD camcorder that is friendly with editing software and compatible with my computer but i am not too tech-savvy. the HDR SR11 looks pretty good but after a long history of serious troubles with compatibility and editing on my PC with windows movie maker 2 and my canon zr45 im apprehensive.
i have a macbook pro, intel based and all that other stuff you can see on my sig. i have iMovie HD version 6.0.3. not very much memory i will prob have to get an external hard drive.
so my questions are, is my imovie version recent enough to handle this AVCHD format? if not, what is the cheapest way to upgrade? can HDMI cables even hook up to this computer or are those only necessary if im plugging into a HDTV? i dont have a blue ray player and doubt that i really need one, but will i need one if i want to make dvds on this computer or can i still keep quality video for playback on this machine or regular DVD players? will a firewire cable improve upload speed onto the computer, is there even a firewire jack on the HDR SR11?
what is the best editing software for the money that is compatible with my aspirations?

im looking to buy a camera very soon because im an aspiring filmmaker moving to australia for a year to make some small scale docs.

thanks in advance for any help you all can offer.
