Epson perfection 1670 will not scan

Hello,

I installed Leopard (10.5.2) on my G4 1Ghz iMac. I also downloaded and installed the latest drivers from Epson. Now when I scan, I get a blank page... the software tells me that there is no document in the scanner... has anyone else gone through this??

VAiN -- I'm not trying to hijack your thread but have the same scanner and am having problems as well. I downloaded a epson driver package called epson11928.dmg which according to their site contained the correct TWAIN driver for OS X 10.5.2. I tried installing the package and the install would launch, say there were 55 items to be loaded and appear to freeze. I would wait and seemingly nothing would happen until I tried to tried to quit the install then there would be a flurry of activity then nothing. I finally checked under applications and the epson scan utility was there but no smart panel. This was done with and without the scanner hooked to a USB port and on ( flashing green light on the enron style scan button. However the epson Smart Panel utility is not present and as a consequence the scan to print, scan to email and scan to web buttons don't work. According to the epson site the scanner should not be connected to the computer during the install. I miss the scan to print, Hopefully someone can help us.

Thanks,
Steve

Yes. On my G5 1.8 dual I have been having this issue with my Epson 1670 since 10.4.11 actually.

I have tried everything and no go. I have ripped everything out of the system folders and libraries, reinstalled from the downloads at Espon, and even reinstalled from the CD that came with the Epson, but no go.

Same exact symptom. Scanner scans but will not see the document.

Kind of ***** since it's not that old and it's a good scanner.

Help?

I pretty much have determined that mine is the scanner itself. I hooked up the scanner to my Ubuntu laptop and went through various steps to set it up and even put new firmware on the scanner, but no go. It just doesn't work anymore.

Frankly, this puts the nail in the already mostly sealed coffin of Espon products for me. Their printers have always be excruciatingly awful (print heads in the ink jets that easily clog but are not user replaceable - BRILLIANT!) and now I have found that their scanners are junk to.

HP, you just snagged me for yet another piece of equipment.

*****, too, since this Epson had the nice transparency lid. But if it doesn't work it doesn't work and there's no getting around it being a hardware failure.

Frankly, I do not understand how Epson has stayed in business with the shoddy junk they sale.
