Help installing PDFtk on Mac Leopard

Greetings,

I'm trying to install pdftk on my Macbook running 10.5.1

I downloaded Macports and used application Port Authority to install PDFtk. After install was completed. I went to terminal to check install. and no luck

I type *$ man pdftk*
and get the following message *"No manual entry for pdftk"*

I typed locate pdftk and get *"locate: `/var/db/locate.database': No such file or directory'*

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Not much support info on the net.

Thank you

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.1)

Ok did some research found the following...

*"After unpacking pdftk, change into the pdftk directory and run make -f Makefile.MacOSX. It will take awhile to finish compiling. When it is done, move the resulting pdftk program to a convenient location in your $PATH, such as /usr/bin."*

I've compiled everything, but don't understand the the last comment about "moving the resulting pdftk program to a convenient location in your $PATH, such as /usr/bin"

I'm new to using terminal and only understand some of the basic functions. any help would be greatly appreciated

thank u

Ok check my directories.

the pdftk executables where installed

/opt/local/bin/

I think the $Path for user is /usr/bin/

do i need to move the pdftk executable files to the /usr/bin or include the /opt/local/bin in the user $Path.

plus, i checked out the .proflile in my user home directory and this is what it says....

#
*# Your previous .profile (if any) is saved as .profile.mpsaved*
*# Setting the path for MacPorts.*
*export PATH=/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:$PATH*

what does this mean?
