Weird Screen/graphics glitch after update

Hey Everyone,

Hopefully someone can help me with this issue. After the 10.5.2 update and graphics update... I've been experiencing an odd graphics glitch. Words get jumbled and stretched upon scrolling. The real crazy part is that I can take a screen shot of the glitch. I'll post a link to a couple of screenshots of the glitch below. I called apple and they recommended I reset the PRAM and PMU which I did... and still no fix. This is pretty intermittent and only occurs part of the time. Please Please Please any help would be fantastic. Also I did try and redo the 10.5.2 update via the combo updater. I have not tried to re-install 10.5 or anything like that... that is my last resort.

Stephen,
Question for you. How easy is it for you to reproduce your problems? If easy, can you post your steps?

Well, it's not easy to MAKE it happen -- I guess now that something is hoarked in 10.5.6, if I were to turn ON "Safe Sleep", then usually it happens AFTER waking up after closing the lid on my MacBook Pro, but only if it is on battery power. This was similar to what others have reported about the issue.

I'll try and get something reproducible.

For what it's worth I bought one of the very last early '08 MBP's in November '08. Obviously I ran software update as a matter of course before doing anything else. this brought it up from 10.5.4 to 10.5.5 and I had seen no evidence of the symptoms talked of in this thread until updating to 10.5.6 a couple of days ago. Now I have the stretched/torn characters and the flashing white blocks in flash videos. So, for me there is no question that 10.5.6 broke it. The burning question however is what's going to fix it? I'm not a "techy" so I'm not going to muck about with developer tools etc but I will be voicing my displeasure to apple if they don't fix it soon

I have the problem too so I count me in... I have noticed it in Safari and ocassionally in Finder.I have non-unibody MBP 2.4gHz purcased in October. My computer had 10.5.2 at first.
After calling the free Apple support I took their advice and updated to 10.5.6. For a while everything was ok but then it started again. I was also told to reset SMC and NVRAM&PVRAM which I did. This did not help.
Luckily Firefox works fine.

rdejana (or anyone else):

Is anyone with a new Unibody Macbook Pro with the 9600MGT / 9400M combination having this problem? I had an interesting discussion with a product specialist at Apple today, and they indicated that ALL MacBooks with the 8600GT, 9600MGT / 9400M NVIDIA chips have this graphics glitch due to sharing the same NVIDIA firmware.

They indicated that engineering has been working on this for nearly 10 months. I can confirm that, because I filed my first complaint in March of 2008.
