Help now if possible... Carbon copy cloner hung up!

I just hooked up a Western Digital 200GB external drive to my G4 iMac so I could use Carbon Copy Cloner to backup my hard drive and do an Erase and Install of Tiger.

It is now 4 1/2 hours later and the clone has been hung up on "copying private" for over an hour. During the cloning I had not taken my preferences off the sleep mode and don't know if that blew it for me. It had gone to sleep and had proceded afterwards so I don't think so. My cloning is 4/5 done so I hate to restart.

Any suggestions on what to check or how to procede? The fact that I can get online tells me the cloning is probably not taking place.

Thanks anybody!

When using CCC, always erase the destination drive first and turn the sleep option off. I am sure your cloning process got hung. Start over and don't forget to erase the drive first!!.

PS BTW, here's a great little utility called "SleepLess" that puts an icon in your menu bar (a little light bulb") from which you can turn sleep on and off without having to reset your prefs everytime.

Thanks for the quick reply. I ended up exiting CCC and looked on the external drive. The external has about 3/4 of a GB less than my Hard Drive, so it would be great if there was an easy way to find out what was missing instead of starting all over. But it sounds like I would be safer just starting over...let me know if you think there is an easier way. How long should CCC take to copy 63 GB?

Thanks again. R

Hello R:

As a future thought: There is a little program called Super Duper ($20 for the full version at www.shirt-pocket.com - I get no commission) that is excellent for making bootable clones. I abandoned CCC months ago on a recommendation and have been most pleased with SD. SD is fast (after the first backup it takes about 7 minutes to clone 80 GB to my external firewire drive), well documented, and was immediately updated for Tiger (CCC was not).

I installed Carbon Copy Cloner on my X-serve with 120Gb. Well it did not run properly and hang my system. I set it run every Sat at 3am.
I deleted everything in the server that has to do with CCC. But every weekend I have to reboot my server because the server is hang.

I checked on /etc/cron and /system/Library/LaunchDaemon. There's nothing in there. Does anybody know where else to look to stop this from running every weekend.
