Netgear DG834GSP router

Netgear DG834GSP router

Does anyone know how to set up a Netgear DG834GSP router on 10.3.9. The wizard that they provide with it is PC only. I've connected the router to the ADSL filter and it's picking up the Internet, and connected the router to the computer via Ethernet, but the system just shows that Ethernet is plugged in and not active and I can't connect to the router using the provided IP address via a browser.

G4, Mac OS X (10.3.x)

Do you really mean filter?

It should go:

1 Unfiltered phone line into ADSL modem.
2 ADSL modem connected to router with CAT 5 Ethernet cable.

If you call your ISP they may be able to help you.

I'm pretty confident I have the wiring part right. What I was looking for was some advice on configuring the Mac OS to recognise the router. My ISP is not very Mac literate.

Don,
does the router show green/yellow lights for the ADSL connection and the port where you plugged your Mac ethernet cable? If not power down the router for a minute and let it initialize again. If those lights are present the trouble lies with your Mac's settings. Do a search for network problems here:

Thanks Hans, I've actually managed to figure it out myself. If anyone has found this thread because they have the same problem what you need to do is create a new location in Network settings. For some reason using the existing location didn't give you the option to select 'Using DHCP' from the 'Configure IPv4' pull down menu under the TCP/IP tab. As soon as you create a new location, you get this option and once selected you can enter the IP address of the router in a browser and off you go.
