Safari and Firefox "Not Responding"

I'm suddenly having trouble with both Safari and Firefox not responding. There's no consistency to it, other than it doesn't take long. At first, it was with selected web sites, but now it's general. I've run MacJanitor and emptied the cache. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

PowerBook G4, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Hi Punkerdoo,

Have you tried shutting the computer off? I tried all sorts of things to fix this issue, but the only thing that worked was shutting down, not just a restart, and then trying it again.
