My mac won't sleep.

For some unknown reason my eMac has decided that it will not sleep as configured in System preferences > energy saver. I have selected the screen saver to activate @ 5mins, the display @ 10mins and the computor to sleep @ 15mins.

The only way I can get my Mac to sleep is to go to Apple > sleep.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as to why this is happening.

I found a solution for this problem (well at least it worked for me).

Check your preferences in Apple Mail (or any mail program) and make sure that the "Check for new mail" option is set to more than your computer sleep time.

I found my wife's email was checking every 5 minutes whereas sleep was set to 15 minutes, but because the iMac was never idle for 15 minutes it never went to sleep!

After setting the Mail to check every 30 minutes it solved the problem.

Hope this helps.
