How to transfer casette tape to Garage band

Hi all, I used to use spin doctor to transfer my old cassette tapes to my mac, just got a new macbook a few months back and old version spin doctor no longer works. I never use Garage band, can anyone show me how to do this in Garage band step by step? Thanks in advance.

Thanks a lot! I've tried some recordings using GB last night, not getting enough input volume, I have set the input volume to max in audio preference setting, no difference. Any idea? I also want to know if I can set the recording time length so I don't have to stand by the recorder till it is finished. Thanks again Alex

Hey ku-man

Just wondering, what are you using to bring the signal into your mac book pro? If your using the line in, all you will get is the line level signal from the tape deck you are using. To boost the signal try running another device in your signal chain. Something like this.

1. tape deck -> 2. powered mixer/home stereo amp -> 3. line in to mac book.

This way you can mess with the gain on the amp to boost your signal into the mac book, watch the levels to avoid clipping (+0 and up).

As far as an automation, I'm sure there is something out there but I like tracking my LP's and Tapes so I have the album broken up, song by song. Try doing the import/export track by track.

Hope this helped

i'm not sure which setting you're referring to, have you turned up the input level in the Track Info pane?

if you know how long it is, I guess you could set up the Cycle Region's yellow bar to be that length. when it reaches the end it will loop around and start playing, it won't record over what you already have.
